Role Description The Star Gazing Expert will lead and conduct on-site astronomy observation sessions, including night sky viewing events, telescope-based demonstrations, and practical workshops for students, educators, and the general public.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate content on constellations, planets, deep-sky objects, and basic astrophysics, as well as setting up, calibrating, and safely operating telescopes and related equipment. The role involves coordinating with schools and partner organizations, supporting astronomy clubs,
assisting in curriculum implementation, and documenting observations and event reports.
The Star Gazing
Expert will also contribute to educational materials, outreach initiatives, and public events that promote astronomy and space science appreciation. This is a full time, on-site role based on various Astroport locations.
Qualifications
- Strong foundational knowledge of astronomy, night sky observations, constellations, planetary science, and basic astrophysics.
- Hands-on experience with telescopes, binoculars, and other observational instruments, including setup, alignment, troubleshooting, and safe usage in field conditions.
- Ability to design and deliver interactive educational sessions, workshops, and demonstrations for diverse age groups, especially school and college learners.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the capacity to explain complex scientific concepts in clear, engaging, and accessible language.
- Comfort working outdoors during evening and night hours, with attention to safety, crowd management, and participant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, Space Science, Education, or a related field; advanced certifications or courses in astronomy are an advantage.
- Prior experience in science outreach, teaching, or public engagement programs, ideally in astronomy or STEM education.
- Strong organizational skills, reliability in event coordination, and ability to collaborate with educators, institutions, and internal teams.
- Enthusiasm for promoting scientific temperament and curiosity, aligned with SPACE’s mission and values.
