The PERSON will oversee the complete operation, maintenance, and compliance of the site's water and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. This includes Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), 3-Stage Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, Multiple Effect Evaporators (MEE), Agitated Thin Film Dryers (ATFD), and Water Treatment Plants (WTP) to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) and maintain full regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities1. Operations & Process Control
· Oversee end-to-end operation of ETP, STP, 3-Stage RO, MEE, ATFD, and WTP systems (Softener, DM Plant, Sand/Carbon Filters).
· Monitor and optimize chemical dosing, biological processes (aeration/activated sludge), pre-treatment, and membrane filtration systems.
· Ensure optimal thermal operations for MEE and ATFD systems to achieve maximum condensate recovery and dry salt production.
· Maintain feed water parameters, salt recovery percentages, condensate quality, and sludge dryness within operational standards.
· Implement Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) strategies to maximize water recycle efficiency back to utility or process operations.
1. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
· Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for pumps, blowers, agitators, vacuum systems, high-pressure RO pumps, membranes, heat exchangers, and centrifuges/dryers. · Troubleshoot operational bottlenecks, scale formation in evaporators, membrane fouling/scaling in RO systems, and bio-upsets in biological stages.
· Coordinate major overhauls, membrane CIP (Clean-In-Place) protocols, chemical descaling, and replacement cycles.
1. Quality Compliance & Regulatory Management
· Ensure strict adherence to State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) / Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
norms and environmental regulations. · Maintain real-time monitoring devices (Online Continuous Effluent Monitoring Systems - OCEMS) and coordinate routine sample testing (BOD, COD, TDS, TSS, pH, Oil & Grease).
· Maintain complete daily logbooks, chemical consumption registers, waste manifest records, and regulatory documentation.
1. Resource & Cost Optimization
· Control operating expenditures (OPEX) by optimizing power, steam, chemical, and freshwater consumption per unit volume treated. · Manage hazardous waste storage and disposal protocols for ATFD dry sludge/salts according to hazardous waste handling rules.
· Manage raw material/chemical inventories (antiscalants, coagulants, biocides, caustic, acids).
1. Team Leadership & EHS
· Direct and manage shift engineers, supervisors, technicians, and plant operators. · Conduct regular training on operational safety, hazardous chemical handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response protocols.
· Enforce strict EHS practices across all utility and treatment plant zones.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· ZLD Compliance Rate: 100% adherence to zero-discharge targets and regulatory norms.
· System Uptime / Availability: >98% uptime for critical treatment stages (RO, MEE, ATFD).
· Specific Utility Consumption: Reduction in power, steam,
and chemical usage per $m^3$ of wastewater treated.
· Membrane & Heat Exchanger Life: Extended asset life through disciplined CIP and operational control.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
· Bachelor's Degree: B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
· (Alternative) Master's Degree: M.Sc. in Environmental Science / Chemistry with extensive hands-on operational leadership.
Work Experience
· 5 TO 8 years of experience in operating industrial water and wastewater treatment plants.
· Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial or lead capacity directly overseeing MEE, ATFD, and Multi-Stage RO operations.
· Hands-on experience in industries such as Textiles, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Distilleries, Paper, or Heavy Manufacturing with ZLD mandate.
Technical Competencies
· Deep knowledge of biological treatment, membrane technologies (UF, NF, multi-stage High-Pressure RO), thermal evaporation (MEE), and drying systems (ATFD).
· Expertise in raw water treatment (Pre-treatment, Clarifiers, Sand Filters, Softeners, DM Plants).
· Practical understanding of PLC/SCADA systems used in water treatment automation.
· Familiarity with local environmental laws, consent-to-operate (CTO) requirements, and Hazardous Waste Management Rules.
Skills & Personal Attributes
· Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and manpower management capabilities.
· Analytical mindset with robust root-cause analysis skills for process troubleshooting.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-departmental coordination and audit representation.
