Job Summary
The Senior Specialist - Market Risk Operations will support the Gas Power trading business by providing independent market risk measurement, exposure monitoring, PL analysis, risk reporting, and control framework oversight. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate complex risk metrics into meaningful business insights for senior management.
Responsibilities
- Analyse and explain daily PL movements and key portfolio risk drivers.
- Perform risk analysis using Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, sensitivity analysis, and other market risk methodologies.
- Monitor trading exposures and limits in accordance with the Trading Control Framework and Manual of Authorities (MOA).
- Provide insightful risk commentary on commodity trading portfolios, particularly Gas and Power.
- Conduct ad hoc data analysis and reporting using trading risk databases and reporting tools.
- Partner with traders, business stakeholders, and technology teams to investigate and resolve risk reporting and application issues.
- Develop and maintain reporting solutions, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Lead business improvement initiatives and risk-related projects with tight delivery timelines.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, SOX controls, Shell Control Framework, and internal policies.
What you bring
- Postgraduate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong understanding of market risk concepts including VaR, stress testing, sensitivity analysis, basis risk, volume risk, and currency risk.
- Knowledge of commodity markets, preferably LNG, Natural Gas, and Power trading.
- Experience working with risk management platforms such as Endur and Nucleus.
- Robust technical and analytical skills with hands-on experience in:
- SQL and Oracle
- Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar data visualization tools
- Ability to analyse large datasets and communicate findings effectively to senior stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management, problem-solving, and project leadership capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- FRM or CFA certification.
- Experience supporting trading and risk management functions within commodity markets.
