Role SummaryWe are hiring a hands-on Senior IoT Hardware & Embedded Systems Engineer to independently design, develop, test and deploy rugged embedded devices for railway and industrial applications.

The candidate must have practical experience in PCB design, embedded firmware, sensor integration, wireless communication, power electronics and field debugging. This is an execution-focused role requiring direct involvement from circuit design through field deployment.

Key ResponsibilitiesHardware and PCB Design

- Independently design embedded hardware and production-ready PCBs.
- Prepare system architecture, schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams and BOMs.
- Design microcontroller-based boards using ESP32, STM32 or equivalent platforms.
- Develop analogue, digital, mixed-signal, sensor-interface and power-supply circuits.
- Integrate GSM/4G, GPS/GNSS, LoRa, RF, Wi-Fi and BLE modules.
- Design signal-conditioning, filtering, isolation and protection circuits.
- Design DC-DC power supplies, battery-charging circuits and battery-management interfaces.
- Apply correct grounding, decoupling, noise reduction, RF-layout and EMI/EMC practices.
- Generate Gerber, drill, BOM, pick-and-place and assembly files.
- Coordinate PCB fabrication and assembly, followed by board bring-up and debugging.
- Modify designs based on testing, production and field feedback.

Embedded Firmware
- Develop embedded firmware using C/C++.
- Interface sensors, communication modules, relays, switches and industrial inputs.
- Implement sensor sampling, calibration, filtering, event detection and alert logic.
- Develop local data logging, buffering and store-and-forward functionality.
- Implement watchdogs, fault recovery, communication retries and automatic restart.
- Develop low-power and battery-optimised firmware.
- Support remote configuration, diagnostics and OTA firmware updates.
- Maintain structured, documented and version-controlled code.





Communication and IoT Integration
- Implement MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP and UDP communication.
- Work with UART, SPI, I²C, RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces.
- Develop reliable communication for weak or intermittent network conditions.
- Implement automatic reconnection, data buffering and communication failover.
- Work with SIM, M2M SIM and eSIM-based communication systems.
- Coordinate with backend and application teams for APIs, payloads and device commands.

Testing and Field Deployment
- Perform PCB bring-up, component-level troubleshooting and firmware debugging.
- Test sensor accuracy, communication range, battery runtime and system reliability.
- Diagnose sensor fluctuation, false alerts, power failures and communication issues.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers and bench power supplies.
- Support field installation, calibration, commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Analyse device logs and field observations to identify root causes.
- Prepare test reports, installation notes, wiring documents and troubleshooting guides.
- Travel to railway or customer locations for trials and deployment when required.

Mandatory Skills

- 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience.
- Strong knowledge of embedded hardware and electronic circuit design.
- Proven ability to independently design schematics and PCB layouts.
- Hands-on experience with Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, Eagle or equivalent software.
- Strong Embedded C/C++ programming skills.
- Experience with ESP32, STM32 or equivalent microcontrollers.
- Sensor interfacing, signal conditioning, ADCs, filtering and calibration.
- GSM/4G, GPS/GNSS, LoRa, RF, Wi-Fi or BLE integration.
- MQTT,



HTTP APIs and TCP/IP communication.
- DC-DC converters, battery systems, charging circuits and electrical protection.
- PCB soldering, rework, bring-up and component-level debugging.
- Solid practical understanding of grounding, noise, surge, ESD and EMI/EMC protection.
- Ability to read datasheets and select appropriate components.
- Ability to independently convert a requirement into a tested working prototype.
- Willingness to travel and troubleshoot devices at field locations.

Preferred Skills

- Experience in railway, automotive, industrial automation, telematics or rugged IoT products.
- Knowledge of FreeRTOS or another real-time operating system.
- Experience with battery-operated or solar-powered devices.
- Experience designing rugged hardware for vibration, dust, moisture and temperature variations.
- Familiarity with IP-rated enclosures, industrial connectors, cable glands and field wiring.
- Knowledge of Git and hardware/firmware version control.
- Familiarity with environmental, vibration and EMI/EMC testing standards.

QualificationBachelor’s or Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems or a related discipline. Practical product-development capability will be prioritised over academic credentials.

Important Screening RequirementCandidates must have personally worked on PCB design and embedded firmware development. Experience limited to Arduino prototyping, module assembly, vendor coordination or software development alone will not be sufficient.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to explain previous PCB designs, firmware architecture, debugging methods and field-deployment experience.
