Senior CDN & Edge Security Engineer (Akamai)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior CDN & Edge Security Operations Specialist with deep expertise in Akamai technologies to manage, optimize, and secure traffic for high-throughput Media and mission-critical

Fintech platforms. In this role, you will lead the configuration, daily performance monitoring, edge security enforcement (WAF/DDoS), and incident troubleshooting across our global edge infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

● Traffic & Cache Management: Design, configure, and maintain Akamai edge configurations

(Property Manager, Edge DNS, GTM) to optimize HTTP/S cache ratios, lower origin load,

and maximize reliability across microservices and API gateways.

● WAF & DDoS Mitigation: Configure and tune Akamai security modules (App and Api protector, Web Application Protector, Bot Manager) to defend APIs and web applications against zero-day threats, automated bot attacks, and volumetric DDoS incidents.

● Media Video Delivery: Optimize streaming workflows (HLS, DASH, VOD, and Live streaming) using Akamai Adaptive Media Delivery (AMD) and Media Services Live to ensure low latency, high throughput, and zero buffering during high-concurrency events.

● Analytical Monitoring & Operations: Conduct daily analytical monitoring of cache hit ratios, origin response times, error rates (4xx/5xx), and network egress. Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and performance tuning initiatives. Conducting security reviews over policies.

● Incident Escalation & Vendor Support:



Serve as a Tier-3 escalation point for on-call operations teams. Work directly with Akamai Support and Technical Account Managers

(TAMs) for platform escalations, feature deployments, and urgent architectural changes.

● Automation Scripting: Write Python and Shell scripts to automate purge requests, log parsing, synthetic performance checks, and API interactions with Akamai OPEN EdgeGrid

APIs.

Required Qualifications

● Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BE) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

● Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in CDN administration, HTTP proxy/cache technologies, and web application security, with primary specialization in the Akamai platform ecosystem.

● Network & Security Depth: Solid operational understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/2 & HTTP/3,

TLS/mTLS, DNS, BGP, Anycast routing, and stateful WAF rule customization.

● Domain Expertise: Practical experience securing transactional Fintech environments (PCI-

DSS considerations, secure API routing) and operating high-bandwidth video distribution networks.

● Scripting Skills: Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for infrastructure monitoring and operational automation.

Preferred Qualifications

● Akamai Network and Security Solutions certifications.

● Experience managing multi-CDN configurations or implementing Infrastructure as Code

(e.g., Terraform Akamai Provider) for edge deployments.

● Familiarity with observability platforms such as Splunk, Datadog, or the ELK stack for log analytics.
