– Civil Planning Engineer
Position: Planning Engineer – CivilDepartment: Projects / ConstructionProject Type: Road, Dam/Anicut, Building, RCC Structures, Drainage, Earthwork, Industrial & Infrastructure Civil Works
Job Purpose:Responsible for complete planning, scheduling, monitoring, quantity tracking and coordination of civil construction projects to ensure work is completed within the required time, cost and resource targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Project Execution Plan, Work Programme, L1/L2/L3 schedules and monthly/weekly targets.
- Prepare and regularly update schedules in MS Project/Primavera and Excel.
- Study BOQ, drawings, specifications and Work Order/contract conditions before execution.
- Prepare quantity take-off and activity-wise work breakup from BOQ and drawings.
- Prepare manpower, machinery and material requirement plans according to the construction schedule.
- Plan requirements for cement, steel, aggregate, sand, murrum/WMM, shuttering and other materials and coordinate procurement in advance.
- Plan deployment and utilization of JCB, Poclain/Excavator, Hyva, Grader, Roller, Crane, Concrete Mixer/Batching Plant/Ajax and other equipment.
- Prepare Daily/Weekly/Monthly Progress Reports, planned-vs-actual reports and identify delays.
- Prepare look-ahead plans — 7-day, 15-day, 30-day and 60/90-day forecasts.
- Coordinate with Site Engineers, Supervisors, Billing/QS, Purchase, Stores, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Track BOQ quantities: total quantity, executed quantity, billed quantity, balance quantity and expected completion date.
- Coordinate with Billing/QS Engineer for RA Bills,
measurements, extra/deviation items and reconciliation.
- Monitor project cost against budget, including labour, machinery, diesel, material and subcontractor costs.
- Identify schedule delays, material shortages, drawing/approval constraints and other bottlenecks and prepare recovery plans.
- Maintain records of drawings, approvals, DPRs, measurements, correspondence and other project documentation.
- Prepare S-curves, progress charts, productivity reports and MIS dashboards for management review.
- Participate in client/contractor progress meetings and maintain action-point/pending-item trackers.
- Prepare project completion forecasts and assist in project close-out and final reconciliation.
Preferred Qualification: B.E./B.Tech Civil or Diploma in Civil Engineering, preferably with 2–5 years of relevant construction experience. Required Skills: Strong Excel skills, MS Project/Primavera, AutoCAD drawing-reading ability, BOQ and quantity calculation, basic rate analysis/billing knowledge, resource planning, progress monitoring, and good coordination with site teams.
For your organization specifically, I would make this a “Planning & Project Control Engineer” rather than only “Planning Engineer,” because you need someone who can connect planning + site progress + quantities + billing + material/machinery planning + management reporting. This would be more helpful across your road, building, dam/anicut, earthwork and industrial civil contracts.
Pay: Up to ₹700,000.00 per year
