Role Description The Optometrist will provide full-time, on-site clinical services at Shubhanu Eye Hospital in Haldwani, conducting routine and specialized eye examinations, vision assessments, and refraction.
Responsibilities include prescribing glasses and contact lenses, screening for common eye conditions, and supporting ophthalmologists in pre- and post-operative patient management. The role involves using diagnostic equipment, documenting clinical findings accurately, educating patients on eye health and preventive care, and contributing to low-vision and contact lens clinics as needed.
The Optometrist will work closely with the medical and administrative team to ensure high-quality, ethical, and patient-focused care, maintaining clinical protocols and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Formal optometry qualification (Bachelor’s or Diploma in Optometry) from a recognized institution; valid registration or eligibility to register with appropriate professional bodies.
- Strong clinical skills in refraction, binocular vision assessment, contact lens fitting, and basic management of common ocular conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, and retinal disorders.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic and screening equipment, including slit lamp, autorefractor, tonometer, keratometer, and fundus imaging tools.
- Ability to deliver patient-centered care with clear communication, counseling on treatment options, and emphasis on ethics, safety, and informed consent.
- Effective teamwork and collaboration skills for working with ophthalmologists, nursing staff, and administrative personnel in a busy clinical environment.
- Strong record-keeping and documentation abilities, including familiarity with electronic medical records or willingness to learn hospital systems.
- Commitment to continuous learning, openness to training in subspecialties such as pediatric ophthalmology, low-vision care, and contact lenses, and interest in long-term association with the hospital.
