About the role The Shory Super App is a single React Native app covering Motor, Health, Home and Pet insurance, shipping to iOS and Android across the UAE and KSA markets. Customers buy policies, make payments and file claims in it. When quality slips, it is not a cosmetic problem. We are looking for someone to own quality for that app. This is a lead role in the sense that you set the strategy, define the standard and are the voice of quality in planning and release decisions - but it is hands-
on. You will be writing tests, running exploratory sessions and blocking releases yourself, not assigning that work to others. You will mentor engineers and any QA we add later, and you may grow a small team over time, but you are hired for your own craft first.
Responsibilities
Strategy and ownership
- Own the test strategy for the app: what is covered by unit, integration, end-to-end and manual exploratory testing, and why.
- Define the release quality bar and the entry and exit criteria for a release, and hold the line on it.
- Own release sign-off for store builds and for OTA patches, including the narrower risk profile of a patch that changes only the JS bundle.
- Report on quality with numbers - escape rate, crash-free sessions, flake rate, coverage of critical journeys - not impressions. Hands-on testing
- Write and maintain end-to-end suites on iOS and Android, including the small-phone and tablet configurations, and keep them fast and trustworthy.
- Run exploratory testing on the journeys that matter most: quote generation, purchase and payment, claims submission, policy management, authentication and post-login journey resumption.
- Test across the axes this app actually varies on: UAE versus KSA market, English versus Arabic including RTL layout, guest versus authenticated, every feature flag in both states, iOS versus Android, and cold start versus warm resume.
- Do regression, upgrade-path and device-matrix testing on real devices.
Process and collaboration
- Sit in refinement and shape acceptance criteria before work starts, so testability is designed in.
- Run triage: reproduce, isolate, prioritise and route defects, including cross-team bugs that belong to a backend or partner service.
- Keep the bug workflow in Jira healthy and the reports specific enough to act on.
- Coach engineers on writing better tests, and review test code in pull requests.
- Work with the release manager on the cadence, and with support on issues reported from production.
What we are looking for
Required
- 6+ years in software quality, with at least 3 years focused on native or React Native mobile apps shipped to both app stores.
- Proven ownership of a mobile test automation suite that people trusted - Detox, Appium, Maestro, Espresso or XCUITest.
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript. You can read the application code, not just the test code, and file a bug report that points at the likely cause.
- You know where mobile actually breaks: lifecycle and backgrounding, network loss and retry, permissions, deep links, push notifications, OS upgrades, low-end devices, app upgrades over existing installed data.
- Experience testing payment or other money-handling flows.
- Comfortable owning a release decision and saying no, with reasons, to people who want to ship.
- Excellent written English and accurate, reproducible bug reports. Nice to have
- Arabic/RTL testing and multi-market products.
- Insurance, fintech or another regulated domain.
- API testing and contract testing.
- Performance and stability.
- Accessibility testing on mobile.
- CI pipelines and device farms.
- Security-adjacent testing: certificate pinning, obfuscated builds, secure storage.
