Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Medical Coding Trainer specializing in Emergency Department (ED) and Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding. The ideal candidate will be responsible for training medical coders, developing training materials, conducting assessments, and ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with current coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct training sessions on ED and E/M coding concepts, guidelines, and documentation requirements.
- Train new hires and experienced coders on accurate code assignment and sequencing.
- Explain CPT, ICD-10-CM, and E/M guidelines with practical coding examples.
- Provide training on ED & E/M levels, MDM, time-based coding, and documentation requirements.
- Prepare training modules, presentations, assessments, and coding exercises.
- Conduct knowledge assessments and provide constructive feedback to trainees.
- Monitor trainee performance and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Stay updated with AMA CPT, CMS, ICD-10-CM, and payer-specific coding guidelines.
- Work with QA and operations teams to identify recurring coding errors and develop corrective training.




- Provide refresher training and updates whenever coding guidelines or regulations change.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of ED and E/M coding.
- Excellent understanding of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Good understanding of E/M documentation and Medical Decision Making (MDM).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to simplify complex coding concepts and explain them effectively.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Qualification & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, or a related healthcare field preferred.
- 3-7 years of relevant medical coding experience, preferably with ED & E/M coding exposure.
- Prior experience as a Medical Coding Trainer / SME / QA / Auditor is preferred.

Preferred

- Experience training large batches of medical coders.
- Experience in US healthcare RCM.
- Knowledge of coding audits, quality metrics, and productivity requirements.
- Experience creating training content and conducting assessments.
