Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager – Regulatory Affairs & Compliance to lead the company's regulatory and statutory compliance function covering FSSAI, Legal Metrology, Product Labelling & Packaging, Waste Management, EPR, Direct Selling Regulations and other applicable laws.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the company's products, packaging, business practices, distributor/associate processes, marketing communications and documentation comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. FSSAI & Food Regulatory Compliance
- Lead the complete FSSAI licensing and regulatory compliance function.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Direct Selling laws, rules, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Manage FSSAI Central/State licenses, registrations, renewals, modifications and amendments.
- Handle applications and documentation through the FoSCoS portal.
- Coordinate with FSSAI authorities regarding applications, inspections, notices, queries and deficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable FSSAI regulations, standards and notifications.
- Review regulatory requirements for new products, ingredients, formulations and product categories.
- Coordinate product testing and laboratory requirements wherever applicable.
- Maintain complete records of FSSAI licenses, approvals, certificates and correspondence.
1. Legal Metrology Compliance
- Manage compliance under applicable Legal Metrology and Packaged Commodities requirements.
- Ensure correct declarations on product packaging, including MRP, net quantity, manufacturer/packer details, customer-care information and other mandatory declarations.
- Manage applicable registrations, renewals and documentation.
- Coordinate with Legal Metrology authorities regarding inspections, notices and queries.
- Review packaging artwork before printing from a Legal Metrology compliance perspective.
1. Product Labelling & Packaging Compliance
- Review and approve product labels, packaging artwork and statutory declarations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable FSSAI, Legal Metrology and other labelling requirements.
- Work closely with R&D;, Quality, Packaging, Marketing and Design teams for new product launches and artwork changes.
- Review nutritional, health, functional and other product claims from a regulatory perspective.
- Ensure that product claims and marketing statements are supported by appropriate documentation wherever required.
- Maintain regulatory checklists for all products and packaging.
- Ensure timely implementation of regulatory changes in existing labels and packaging.
1. Direct Selling Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable Direct Selling laws, rules, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Review the company's direct selling business model, policies, processes and documentation from a regulatory-compliance perspective.
- Review and monitor Distributor/Direct Seller/Associate agreements, terms & conditions, policies and codes of conduct.
- Ensure that distributor onboarding, KYC, documentation and related processes comply with applicable requirements.
- Review the company's compensation/incentive structure, sales practices and business processes from a regulatory perspective.
- Monitor and ensure that direct sellers do not engage in misleading, deceptive or prohibited business practices.
- Review distributor training material, presentations, brochures, scripts and communication material for regulatory compliance.
- Review product and income-related claims made by distributors on social media, digital platforms, events and other channels.
- Ensure appropriate guidelines are established for product claims, income claims, testimonials and promotional communications.
- Monitor compliance relating to refunds, returns, cancellation, cooling-off requirements and grievance mechanisms, wherever applicable.
- Establish systems to identify and address complaints or violations involving direct sellers/distributors.
- Coordinate investigation and corrective action in cases of non-compliant distributor activities.
- Work with Legal, Compliance, HR, Sales and Training teams to implement direct selling compliance policies.
- Keep management updated regarding changes in direct selling regulations and their potential business impact.
1. Waste Management & EPR Compliance
- Manage compliance related to applicable waste-management and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate Plastic Waste Management/EPR requirements wherever applicable.
- Manage applicable registrations, returns, reporting and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate with authorized recyclers/waste-management agencies.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting packaging and waste-management obligations.
1. Regulatory Audits, Inspections & Notices
- Coordinate regulatory inspections and audits conducted by government authorities.
- Prepare the organization for inspections by ensuring all required records and documents are available.
- Handle regulatory notices, queries, observations and deficiencies.
- Coordinate corrective and preventive actions with relevant departments.
- Maintain records of inspections, observations, responses and closure of compliance issues.
1. Regulatory Documentation & Compliance Management
- Develop and maintain a centralized database of all licenses, registrations, approvals and regulatory certificates.
- Monitor expiry dates and ensure timely renewals.
- Develop compliance calendars, trackers, SOPs and regulatory checklists.
- Maintain regulatory documentation for products, packaging, distributors and business operations.
- Prepare periodic compliance reports for senior management.
1. Regulatory Updates & Advisory
- Continuously monitor changes in FSSAI, Legal Metrology, Direct Selling, EPR/Waste Management, Packaging, Labelling and other applicable regulations.
- Assess the impact of regulatory changes on the company's products and business operations.
- Communicate regulatory updates to management and concerned departments.
- Provide regulatory guidance for current products, new business initiatives, packaging changes and marketing campaigns.
- Develop systems to ensure continuous regulatory compliance.
1. Cross-Functional & External Coordination
- Work closely with Legal, Quality, R&D;, Production, Packaging, Purchase, Marketing, Sales, Training, Export and Finance teams.
- Coordinate with government authorities, regulatory consultants, testing laboratories and external agencies.
- Represent the company in regulatory discussions and meetings when required.
- Provide regulatory guidance to business teams and senior management.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Law or a related field.
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in Regulatory Affairs, Compliance or Legal/Regulatory functions.
- Strong hands-on experience with FSSAI licensing and compliance.
- Good working knowledge of Legal Metrology and packaged commodity regulations.
- Strong experience in product labelling and packaging compliance.
- Working knowledge of Direct Selling regulatory requirements and compliance practices.
- Knowledge of EPR, Plastic Waste Management and other applicable environmental compliance.
- Experience dealing with government authorities, regulatory bodies and testing laboratories.
- Experience in direct selling, FMCG, food, nutraceutical, Ayurvedic/herbal, dietary supplement or consumer healthcare industries will be preferred.
- Strong documentation, analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to independently manage regulatory matters and lead compliance activities.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
