Role Overview
The Manager – Financial Planning &
- Analysis is responsible for leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and business performance analysis. The role partners closely with Finance, Actuarial, Business, Risk and Operations teams to provide actionable financial insights, support resource allocation and strategic decisions, and strengthen financial governance. This role translates business strategies into financial plans and projections, helping senior management understand performance, assess future outcomes and make informed, data-driven decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning &
- Budgeting
- Lead the annual budgeting and business planning process.
- Coordinate with functional teams to develop departmental budgets.
- Consolidate business plans into integrated financial projections.
- Ensure alignment between strategic objectives and financial plans.
Forecasting &
- Financial Projections
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor changes in key business assumptions and assess financial impact.
- Update forecasts based on business performance and market developments.
- Support long-term financial planning and outlook exercises.
Management Reporting &
- MIS
- Develop and deliver monthly MIS reports and management dashboards.
- Report on revenue, expenses, profitability, productivity, and key business metrics.
- Provide timely and accurate financial information to leadership.
- Enhance reporting quality and decision-support analytics.
Variance Analysis &
- Performance Monitoring
- Analyse actual performance against budget and forecast.
- Identify key business and financial performance drivers.
- Investigate variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Present actionable insights to the CFO and management team.
Business Performance Analysis
- Monitor performance across products, channels, and business functions.
- Evaluate premium growth, policy volumes, claims trends, and profitability.
- Assess operational and financial efficiency indicators.
- Support business reviews with meaningful performance insights.
Business Partnering
- Collaborate with Business, Actuarial, Operations, Risk, and Finance teams.
- Translate business plans and initiatives into financial outcomes.
- Provide financial guidance for strategic and operational decisions.
- Support cross-functional initiatives and performance improvement programs.
Cost Management &
- Profitability
- Monitor operating expenses, manpower costs, and cost ratios.
- Track cost efficiency and identify optimization opportunities.
- Evaluate the financial impact of cost-saving initiatives.
- Support profitability improvement measures across the organization.
Financial Modelling &
- Scenario Analysis
- Build financial models for business plans and strategic initiatives.
- Develop models for new products, manpower planning, and investment proposals.
- Conduct sensitivity and scenario analyses for key business assumptions.
- Assess financial implications of alternative business strategies.
KPI Dashboard &
- Reporting Automation
- Develop and maintain financial and operational dashboards.
- Improve reporting automation and data visualization capabilities.
- Enhance data accuracy, consistency, and reporting efficiency.
- Leverage Excel, BI tools, ERP systems, and FP&A; platforms for process improvement.
Strategic Planning &
- Governance
- Support management decision-making through financial insights and analysis.
- Contribute to business expansion, resource allocation, and investment evaluations.
- Participate in 3–5 year strategic planning and financial projection exercises.
- Ensure adherence to internal reporting standards, controls, and governance requirements.
Competition &
- Market Analysis
- Conduct competitor and industry benchmarking across key business and financial parameters.
- Track premium growth, product mix, pricing, market segments, distribution and geographic presence.
- Monitor microinsurance, credit life, group life and industry trends.
- Benchmark CALI’s productivity, cost and business metrics against relevant peers.
- Prepare competitive intelligence dashboards and highlight key market developments.
- Identify competitive risks, opportunities and strategic implications for management.
- Support business planning, forecasting and scenario modelling using market intelligence.
Qualifications &
- Experience
Education
- CA, CFA, CMA, MBA (Finance), or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
Experience
- 10-12 years of relevant experience in FP&A;, business finance, management reporting, or commercial finance.
- Experience within Insurance, BFSI, Financial Services, or a high-growth organization preferred.
- Strong hands-on expertise in financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence platforms preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP, finance systems, and FP&A; tools.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and performance reporting.
- Knowledge of insurance industry metrics and business drivers would be advantageous.
