Role Description
We are looking for a hands-on Legal Counsel/Manager specialising in Litigation, Cyber Law and Court Matters who can independently manage complex legal matters and work closely with management, external counsels, law-enforcement agencies, regulators, banks, acquiring partners, merchants/customers and other stakeholders.
This role offers a strong leadership and career progression opportunity, with the potential for the right candidate to grow into a Director-level role based on experience, ownership, performance and ability to independently manage the company's legal function.

Key Responsibilities
1. Litigation & Court Matters
- Independently manage and coordinate civil, criminal, commercial and regulatory litigation involving the company.
- Handle matters relating to: Commercial disputes, Contractual disputes, Payment and settlement disputes, Merchant disputes, Recovery matters, Injunctions and stay applications, Cybercrime complaints, Criminal complaints/FIR-related matters, Regulatory and compliance matters, Consumer and commercial disputes, Coordinate with external advocates and law firms for drafting, filing, hearings and case strategy, Prepare legal briefs, case chronologies, pleadings, affidavits, replies, rejoinders, notices and other legal documents,Track court proceedings, deadlines, hearings and legal deliverables., Maintain a comprehensive litigation tracker and legal risk dashboard for management.
2. Cyber Law & Cybercrime Matters
- Handle legal aspects of cybercrime, online fraud, account freezes, payment fraud, unauthorised transactions and cyber-related investigations.
- Coordinate with: relevant authorities, Investigating Officers, Law-enforcement agencies, Banks/acquirers,Payment processors/acquirers
- Assist in matters involving bank-account/payment-account freezes, notices, investigation requests and requests for information.
- Draft legal responses to cybercrime notices, police communications, legal notices and investigation-related correspondence.
- Advise management on legal strategy and documentation in cyber incidents.
- Work with technology, information security,
compliance and operations teams during cyber-related incidents.
3. Representation Before Authorities
- Represent and coordinate representation of the company before appropriate:
- Courts and tribunals
- Police authorities
- Cyber Crime Cells
- Government authorities
- Regulatory authorities
- Investigating agencies
- Other statutory authorities
- Prepare and coordinate submissions, replies, representations and legal documentation.
- Ensure timely response to legal notices, summons, complaints and regulatory communications.
The candidate should be legally qualified and capable of independently handling company matters before relevant authorities, subject to applicable rules regarding appearance and representation before courts/tribunals. 4. Fintech & Payments Legal
Develop a strong understanding of the legal framework applicable to:

- Review, draft and negotiate:

- Identify contractual risks and provide practical mitigation.
- Protect the company's commercial, financial and intellectual-property interests.
- Develop standard legal templates and contractual playbooks.
6. Legal Notices & Dispute Management
- Draft and respond to legal notices.
- Evaluate claims received from merchants, vendors, partners, employees and other third parties.
- Recommend appropriate legal action, settlement or defence strategy.
- Coordinate recovery proceedings wherever required.
- Maintain documentation and evidence required for potential litigation.
7. Evidence & Documentation
- Ensure proper preservation and organisation of:
- Contracts
- Transaction records
- Merchant documentation
- Emails
- System logs
- API logs
- Payment records
- KYC/KYB documentation
- Communication records
- Other electronic evidence
- Work with technology and security teams to ensure appropriate documentation for cyber and litigation matters.
- Assist external counsel in preparing evidence bundles and case files.
8. Management Advisory
- Act as a legal advisor to the CEO, founders and senior management.
- Identify potential legal exposure before it becomes a dispute.
- Provide concise, business-oriented legal opinions.
- Participate in management discussions involving:
- Business risk
- Regulatory risk
- Litigation
- Contracts
- Merchant disputes
- Cyber incidents
- Partner disputes
- Develop preventive legal frameworks rather than only responding after disputes arise.

Mandatory Qualifications
Education
- LLB is mandatory or relevant
- LLM will be an added advantage.
- Additional qualifications in Cyber Law, Technology Law, Corporate Law or Commercial Law will be preferred.
Experience 3–7 years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably with significant hands-on exposure to:
