Balstern Digital is hiring a Lead Android Engineer for a long-term European railway digitalisation project .

You will take technical ownership of a greenfield Android application, lead a small senior engineering team, and remain hands-on with architecture, development, integration and delivery.

What you’ll do

- Define and own the Android application architecture, modular structure and engineering standards.
- Lead development using Kotlin + Jetpack Compose .
- Design robust app state, offline behaviour, caching, reconnection and recovery flows.
- Integrate with real-time/backend systems using technologies such as MQTT, WebSocket and XML/XSD .
- Guide implementation of authentication, SSO, JWT, TLS, secure storage and Android Keystore .
- Work with UX designers and Figma to build responsive, high-performance tablet interfaces.
- Lead code reviews, mentor developers and drive testing, CI/CD and release quality.
- Work directly with European customer and partner engineering teams on technical decisions and delivery.

What we’re looking for




- 8+ years of software development experience with a strong Android background.
- Robust hands-on Kotlin and Jetpack Compose experience.
- Experience owning Android architecture and technical design.
- Strong knowledge of Coroutines, Flow/StateFlow, MVVM/MVI, Clean Architecture and modularisation .
- Experience with real-time or unreliable connectivity, offline-first design and state recovery.
- Good understanding of mobile security, authentication and secure storage.
- Experience with automated testing, code reviews and CI/CD.
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills.
