Brief On The Organization Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG) is a University established under IIPHG Act, 2015 of Gujarat State. It offers courses in the field of Public Health. It also undertakes various research projects in the field of Public Health. The university is established by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) with support from the Government of Gujarat, Department of Health & Family Welfare.
Project Brief
IIPHG proposes to implement a Facility-based Intensified TB Case Finding Project across six public health facilities in Gujarat. The project will strengthen early identification of TB through systematic screening of patients attending selected OPDs and IPDs, vulnerability assessment, CXR facilitation, diagnostic evaluation, patient navigation and follow-up, and linkage with treatment, NTEP and TPT services.
The project will also strengthen facility-level implementation through standardized SOPs and workflows, healthcare-provider upskilling, Project MIS-based patient tracking and performance monitoring, supportive supervision, and documentation of operational learnings for potential institutionalization and replication.
Deliverables The Laboratory Technician will provide laboratory and diagnostic coordination support for patients identified through the project, with particular focus on reducing delays between identification of presumptive TB, specimen collection, testing and availability of diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities
Support sputum/specimen collection, labelling, handling, registration and documentation as per facility and project protocols.
Facilitate coordination of specimen transportation and linkage with designated NAAT and other TB diagnostic services, as applicable.
Track specimens, pending tests and diagnostic results and facilitate timely follow-up with laboratory and project teams.
Coordinate with Field Officers, clinicians, laboratory personnel and NTEP teams for timely completion of the diagnostic pathway.
Maintain accurate laboratory and specimen-related records and support updating/reconciliation of relevant information in the Project MIS.
Follow applicable laboratory safety, infection prevention, specimen-handling and biomedical waste-management protocols.
Identify laboratory-related delays, rejected/pending specimens or other diagnostic bottlenecks and report them to the District Coordinator.
Support routine project reporting, data-quality reviews and other laboratory-related activities as required.
Expected Deliverable The Laboratory Technician will support timely specimen collection and laboratory registration, coordination with diagnostic services, tracking of pending specimens and results, accurate laboratory documentation, Project MIS coordination, and timely identification and resolution of laboratory-related diagnostic delays.
Qualification Minimum: Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT), Medical Laboratory Science, or another relevant laboratory/health-related discipline from a recognized institution.
Desirable: Relevant training in laboratory diagnostics, microbiology,
specimen management or public health laboratory services.
Experience Minimum: At least 1 year of relevant experience in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory, public health programme, specimen collection/management, laboratory services or allied healthcare setting.
Desirable: Experience in TB diagnostics, microbiology, NAAT testing, will be an advantage but is not mandatory.
