Job Purpose: Category Lead - HO leads procurement and sourcing strategies of the assigned spend category/ categories, including negotiation, contracting and ongoing supplier management, negotiating best price points, thereby meeting specifications of quality, and timelines within the stipulated budgetary requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning:

Understand and support the Techno-Commercial strategy at CPO/BU levels.



Contribute to the design and implementation of the Techno-Commercial organizational structure and strategic initiatives.

Core Procurement:

Review and verify Purchase Requisitions (PR) for completeness and accuracy, deciding procurement methods based on PR type and material. Partner in creating long-term demand projections and category-wise sourcing strategies. Prepare procurement plans, manage bidding processes, and evaluate vendors based on defined criteria.

Strategic Sourcing:

Manage sourcing for CapEx, OpEx, bulk materials, and services by selecting appropriate bidding processes and preparing RFI/RFP documents. Conduct negotiations, vendor evaluations, and e-auctions, if necessary, and finalize contracts, ensuring compliance with governance protocols. Oversee rate contracts, purchase/service orders, and contract documentation.

Post-Order Management:

Monitor order fulfillment, manage changes, and ensure timely delivery of materials and services. Resolve vendor queries, facilitate amendments, and drive the closure of contracts.

Mergers & Acquisitions:

Provide commercial support during mergers & acquisitions or recent business opportunities, ensuring optimal contracting structures and clearances.

Quality Assurance:





Evaluate and report on quality of materials procured vis-à-vis defined standards; Take corrective action as deemed necessary.

Supplier Management:

Oversee vendor identification, onboarding, and segmentation based on spend and risk. Lead vendor performance evaluations and ensure strategic partnerships for long-term value.

Data Management and Analysis:

Analyze procurement data to identify opportunities for efficiency and value improvement and implement category-specific interventions.

Risk Management:

Ensure adherence to governance protocols and address audit queries. Identify and manage procurement risks, developing mitigation plans for key categories.

People Management:

Set goals, manage team performance, and support team development through Individual Development Plans (IDPs). Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and excellence within the team.

Digital Mindset:

Keep up with digital and AI advancements to enhance business and maintain competitiveness.

Team Development:

Promote a respectful and safe workplace, lead collaborative and productive teams, and mentor for growth and success.

Cluster Head, Category Buyers, Head–Projects, Head – Engineering,

Key Stakeholders - External:

Vendors, Logistics providers, suppliers, agencies

Education Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in engineering with a Master's degree preferred in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Finance or a related area

Work Experience:

Minimum 15 - 20 years of relevant work experience in supply chain management, procurement with minimum 5 years of category handling experience & managing buying team
