General Manager – Operations & Business Performance

About the Role
Spartek Group is looking for an experienced and execution-oriented General Manager – Operations & Business Performance to drive operational efficiency, supply-chain performance, procurement, logistics, inventory management and commercial performance across the Group's multiple business verticals.
This is a business and operations leadership role, not a conventional finance or accounts position.
The individual will work closely with the Managing Director and respective business heads to ensure that the Group's businesses are operating efficiently, projects are executed on time, procurement and production are aligned with demand, inventory is controlled, logistics costs are optimised and business units deliver their targeted margins and cash flows.
The ideal candidate should understand the complete operating cycle:
Procurement → Production → Inventory → Logistics → Sales → Collections → Working Capital → Profitability The person should be highly hands-on, comfortable visiting plants, warehouses and project sites, working with vendors and operational teams, identifying bottlenecks and personally driving corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities1. Group Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day operational performance across Spartek Group's business verticals.
- Work closely with business heads to improve operational efficiency and execution.
- Establish operating processes, systems and KPIs across business units.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and drive timely corrective action.
- Monitor production, procurement, inventory, logistics and project execution.
- Ensure business plans are translated into measurable operational targets.
- Conduct regular operational reviews with respective business heads.
- Drive accountability for agreed targets and action plans.
2. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Lead and monitor procurement activities across business divisions.
- Develop and maintain a strong vendor and supplier network.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, credit periods and commercial conditions.
- Identify alternate suppliers and cost-effective sourcing opportunities.
- Standardise procurement processes across the Group wherever practical.
- Monitor raw-material prices and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Ensure procurement is aligned with actual demand and project requirements.
- Develop vendor-performance metrics covering quality, cost, delivery and reliability.
- Reduce procurement leakages and uncontrolled purchasing.
3. Production & Manufacturing Coordination
- Coordinate with manufacturing and plant teams to improve productivity and capacity utilisation.
- Monitor production planning against sales demand and project requirements.
- Track production efficiency, wastage, rejection, downtime and conversion costs.
- Identify manufacturing bottlenecks and coordinate corrective action.
- Improve utilisation of manpower, machinery and production capacity.
- Ensure production schedules are aligned with customer commitments.
- Work with plant teams to establish measurable production KPIs.
- Support implementation of lean, process-improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
4. Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Establish effective inventory-control systems across the Group.
- Monitor raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
- Establish appropriate inventory norms, reorder levels and safety-stock requirements.
- Monitor inventory ageing and identify slow-moving and obsolete stock.
- Improve inventory turnover and reduce working capital locked in stock.
- Improve warehouse utilisation, storage systems and material handling.
- Ensure proper coordination between procurement, production, sales and dispatch.
- Implement regular inventory reviews and reconciliation mechanisms.
5. Logistics & Distribution
- Oversee logistics and distribution operations across the Group.
- Monitor transportation costs and delivery performance.
- Optimise freight rates, routes, vehicle utilisation and logistics vendors.
- Develop cost-effective transportation and distribution models.
- Improve dispatch planning and delivery turnaround time.
- Monitor damages, shortages, returns and delivery-related issues.
- Evaluate opportunities for centralised logistics and distribution.
- Establish logistics KPIs and vendor-performance metrics.
6. Project & Site Operations
- Coordinate operational execution for Group projects and customer requirements.
- Work with project managers, site teams, production teams and suppliers to ensure timely execution.
- Monitor project schedules, material availability, manpower and execution costs.
- Identify delays, bottlenecks and resource constraints at project sites.
- Ensure proper coordination between commercial commitments and operational execution.
- Support development of standard operating procedures for project execution.
- Track project-level profitability, cost overruns and completion timelines.
7. Sales, Operations & Demand Coordination
- Work closely with sales teams to translate the sales pipeline into operational requirements.
- Ensure procurement and production planning are aligned with actual demand.
- Improve coordination between sales commitments and available capacity/inventory.
- Evaluate customer requirements from an operational and commercial perspective.
- Support large customer/project negotiations where operational inputs are required.
- Identify products, customers and projects with poor commercial contribution.
- Ensure operational teams are prepared to support business growth.
8. Cost Optimisation & Business Performance
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities across procurement, production, logistics and operations.
- Monitor product and project-level contribution margins.
- Identify operational leakages affecting profitability.
- Drive initiatives to improve gross margin and EBITDA.
- Review business-unit performance against budgets and targets.
- Identify underperforming products, projects, customers and business divisions.
- Develop action plans to improve profitability and operating efficiency.
9. Working Capital & Commercial Management
Finance will be an important supporting responsibility, with primary focus on commercial and operational working-capital efficiency.
- Monitor receivables, inventory and payables.
- Work with sales teams to improve collections and credit discipline.
- Identify cash blocked in inventory and overdue receivables.
- Improve supplier payment terms and working-capital cycles.
- Monitor project cash flows and commercial commitments.
- Support the Finance team in business forecasting and cash-flow planning.
- Review division-wise P&L; and identify operational drivers affecting profitability.
10. MIS & Business Reviews
- Establish a standardised operating dashboard across Group businesses.
- Develop weekly and monthly operational review formats.
- Track key metrics including:
- Revenue
- Gross margin
- Production
- Capacity utilisation
- Procurement cost
- Inventory
- Logistics cost
- Receivables
- Working capital
- Project execution
- EBITDA / PBT
- Present key deviations and corrective actions to the Managing Director.
- Ensure MIS is action-oriented rather than limited to historical reporting.
11. Process Improvement & Systems
- Establish and improve SOPs across procurement, operations, logistics and inventory.
- Identify opportunities for ERP, automation and digital process improvements.
- Standardise processes across business verticals wherever practical.
- Improve data visibility and accountability across departments.
- Develop systems to ensure timely escalation of operational issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the Group.
12. Team Leadership
- Lead and coordinate operations, procurement, logistics, commercial and related functional teams.
- Define clear KPIs and responsibilities for functional managers.
- Build a performance-oriented operating culture.
- Mentor and develop operational managers and business-unit teams.
- Ensure timely escalation and resolution of critical operational issues.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration between Sales, Procurement, Production,
Logistics and Finance.
Candidate ProfileExperience
- 10–15 years of relevant experience.
- Solid experience in Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Commercial, Manufacturing or Business Management.
- Experience managing multiple business units, factories, warehouses, projects or distribution networks will be preferred.
- Strong hands-on exposure to procurement, inventory, logistics and operational execution.
- Experience in P&L; and commercial management is required, but the role is not primarily an accounting/finance position.
- Experience working directly with MDs, promoters, CEOs or senior management will be an advantage.

What We Are Looking For
We are not looking for a traditional Accounts Head or Finance Manager whose primary focus is accounting, audit, GST, TDS and statutory compliance.
We are looking for a hands-on business operations leader who can work across the Group and answer questions such as:
- Are our plants and operations running efficiently?
- Are procurement costs competitive?
- Are we carrying excessive inventory?
- Are production plans aligned with actual demand?
- Can logistics costs be reduced?
- Are projects being executed on time and within budget?
- Where are operational bottlenecks occurring?
- Which products, projects and customers are generating healthy contribution?
- Where are we losing money through operational inefficiencies?
- How can working capital be released?
- How can EBITDA and PBT be improved?
- What operational changes are required to support the Group's growth?
The candidate should be comfortable moving between factories, project sites, warehouses, suppliers, logistics operations, sales teams and management reviews.

Compensation
₹18–21 LPA, depending on experience, capability and suitability.
The compensation structure may include a performance-linked component based on measurable improvements in operational efficiency, cost optimisation, profitability, working capital and overall business performance.
Overall Objective The primary objective of the General Manager – Operations & Business Performance is to build a stronger, more disciplined and scalable operating structure across Spartek Group.
The person will function as a key business partner to the Managing Director, connecting procurement, production, inventory, logistics, projects, sales and finance to ensure that business growth translates into improved profitability and cash flow.
The ultimate objective is to ensure that every Spartek business vertical operates with:
Better execution → Lower costs → Higher productivity → Stronger margins → Better cash flow → Sustainable growth.
Pay: ₹1,800,000.00 - ₹2,100,000.00 per year
