About the Role
We are looking for an accomplished General Manager – International Business Development to drive commercial growth for a pharmaceutical company's Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) portfolio across international markets.
The role will focus on expanding the company's global footprint through out-licensing of dossiers, CMO/CDMO partnerships, commercial alliances, and strategic distribution relationships across Europe, Canada, Africa, and ROW markets.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of international pharmaceutical business development, commercial negotiation, OSD knowledge, and senior stakeholder management experience, with an established network across global pharmaceutical markets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Market Expansion & Sales Growth
- Develop and execute territory-specific business development strategies across Europe, Canada, Africa, and ROW markets.
- Position and commercialize the company's OSD pipeline, including tablets and capsules, based on therapeutic demand and country-specific regulatory requirements.
- Own revenue, profitability, and market-share objectives for assigned international territories.
- Identify new markets, customers, and commercial opportunities to accelerate international growth.
2. Out-Licensing & Dossier Monetization
- Identify and develop relationships with potential licensing partners for developed OSD products and dossiers.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiations covering upfront payments, technology-transfer costs, regulatory milestones, and long-term supply agreements.
- Manage existing out-licensed partnerships and ensure effective coordination on dossier updates, variations, and regulatory submissions.
- Develop commercially attractive licensing structures aligned with business objectives.
3. CMO / CDMO Business Development
- Identify international pharmaceutical companies seeking outsourced OSD manufacturing and commercial-scale manufacturing partnerships.
- Develop and present the organization's manufacturing capabilities, regulatory approvals, capacity, technical expertise, and value proposition.
- Work closely with Plant Operations, R&D;/Tech Transfer, Finance, and Quality teams to assess technical feasibility and commercial viability.
- Lead costing, proposal development, commercial negotiations, and closure of profitable CMO/CDMO opportunities.
4. Strategic Alliances & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with C-level and senior stakeholders across generic pharmaceutical companies, distributors, licensing partners, and local market players.
- Develop a strong international partner ecosystem across target markets.
- Lead negotiations for CDAs, term sheets, supply agreements, quality agreements, and other commercial frameworks in coordination with Legal and relevant internal teams.
- Maintain long-term strategic relationships with key customers and partners.
5. Market Intelligence & Regulatory Coordination
- Partner with Regulatory Affairs to assess registration pathways, dossier readiness, CTD/eCTD requirements, and market-entry considerations.
- Track competitor activity, patent expiries, Day-1 launch opportunities, pricing dynamics, and tender cycles.
- Identify market trends and emerging opportunities and translate insights into actionable commercial strategies.
- Evaluate market-specific regulatory and commercial barriers across Europe, Canada, Africa, and ROW.
Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacy (B.Pharm), Science (B.Sc), or a related technical discipline is required.
- MBA in International Business / Marketing from a reputed/premier institute is highly preferred.
Experience
- 15–18+ years of overall pharmaceutical corporate experience,
with significant experience in International Business Development / Commercial functions.
- Proven track record of managing business development and commercial structures across Europe and Canada.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong experience in international pharmaceutical B2B business development and strategic partnerships.
Mandatory Business Model Experience
- Demonstrated experience in both:
- Out-licensing / dossier licensing and supply agreements
- CMO / CDMO business development
- Solid understanding of the commercial lifecycle from opportunity identification through negotiation, contracting, and partnership management.
Technical & Market Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) manufacturing, including tablets and capsules.
- Familiarity with international regulatory environments, including EU-GMP, Health Canada, PMDA, and ROW markets.
- Understanding of dossier commercialization, technology transfer, registration pathways, patent expiry/Day-1 opportunities, and international pharmaceutical supply models.
