Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the overall operations of a distinctive luxury resort in Gujarat.
The property offers a unique combination of luxury accommodation, nature, wildlife, wellness, local culture and curated guest experiences . The General Manager will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence, exceptional guest experiences, financial performance, team development and the overall positioning of the resort as a premium destination.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in luxury resort operations , excellent commercial understanding, hands-on leadership capability and the ability to manage a remote/destination property where guest experience and operational consistency are critical.
Key Responsibilities
1. Overall Resort Operations
- Take complete responsibility for the day-to-day operations and overall performance of the resort.
- Ensure smooth coordination between all operational and support departments.
- Establish and maintain high standards of service, hospitality and operational efficiency.
- Monitor daily operations across Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Engineering, Security, Recreation, Wellness and other guest-facing functions.
- Ensure that all departments operate in accordance with established SOPs, policies and service standards.
- Conduct regular operational inspections and identify areas requiring immediate attention.
- Ensure proper coordination between departments to provide a seamless guest journey.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, ambience, safety and service throughout the property.
2. Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Take ownership of the overall guest experience from pre-arrival to departure.
- Develop a strong service culture focused on personalised and memorable experiences.
- Personally interact with guests, particularly VIPs, repeat guests and special-interest travellers.
- Monitor guest feedback across reviews, direct feedback and other channels.
- Address guest complaints and service recovery situations promptly and professionally.
- Identify opportunities to create unique experiences around the resort's nature, wildlife, wellness and local culture.
- Ensure guest expectations are understood and consistently exceeded through appropriate service delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in guest satisfaction and online reputation.
3. Revenue & Commercial Management
- Take responsibility for the resort's overall revenue and profitability.
- Work closely with Sales, Revenue Management and Reservations teams to maximise occupancy, ADR and RevPAR.
- Develop strategies to improve room revenue, F&B; revenue and ancillary revenue.
- Monitor business mix, source markets, occupancy trends, average room rates and booking patterns.
- Identify new revenue opportunities through experiences, activities, wellness, dining, events and other resort offerings.
- Review business performance regularly and take corrective action where required.
- Support the development of annual budgets, forecasts and business plans.
- Ensure that commercial decisions are aligned with the positioning and character of the resort.
4. Financial Management
- Prepare and manage the annual operating budget in coordination with the Finance team.
- Monitor departmental budgets and operating expenses.
- Ensure effective cost control without compromising guest experience or service quality.
- Review monthly P&L; performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor payroll, food cost, beverage cost, utilities, maintenance and other major operating expenses.
- Improve operational productivity and resource utilisation.
- Ensure proper financial controls and approval processes are followed.
- Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate forecasting and financial reporting.
5. Food & Beverage Operations
- Oversee the overall performance of the resort's F&B; operations.
- Ensure consistency in food quality, service standards, hygiene and presentation.
- Monitor restaurant, in-room dining, banqueting and other F&B; operations as applicable.
- Work with the Executive Chef and F&B; leadership to develop menus and unique dining experiences.
- Monitor food and beverage cost and wastage.
- Explore opportunities for destination dining, local cuisine and curated culinary experiences.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and statutory requirements.
6. Accommodation Operations
- Ensure the highest standards of room cleanliness, maintenance and presentation.
- Monitor room readiness, housekeeping standards and preventive maintenance.
- Work closely with Front Office and Housekeeping to optimise room inventory and turnaround.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas.
- Ensure all guest amenities and facilities are maintained to luxury standards.
7. People & Team Leadership
- Provide strong leadership and direction to the entire resort team.
- Build a high-performing, service-oriented and accountable team culture.
- Recruit, develop and retain talented hospitality professionals.
- Identify training and development requirements for employees.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Develop departmental succession plans and future leadership talent.
- Maintain strong employee engagement and communication.
- Ensure compliance with company HR policies and applicable labour regulations.
- Promote teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
8. Sustainability & Responsible Tourism
- Champion responsible and sustainable tourism practices across the resort.
- Ensure operational practices are aligned with environmental and conservation objectives.
- Promote responsible use of water, energy and other resources.
- Reduce operational waste and unnecessary consumption.
- Encourage local sourcing and engagement with surrounding communities wherever appropriate.
- Support initiatives that preserve local culture, traditions, crafts and the natural environment.
- Ensure sustainability is integrated into the guest experience rather than treated only as a back-office initiative.
9. Wildlife, Nature & Guest Experiences
- Work closely with teams responsible for safaris, nature experiences and outdoor activities.
- Ensure all guest activities are professionally organised and operated with appropriate safety standards.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local guides, naturalists and experience partners.
- Ensure guest experiences are authentic, safe and aligned with the property's positioning.
- Identify opportunities to develop new curated experiences based on local culture, nature and destination-specific attractions.
10. Engineering & Asset Management
- Ensure the property and all operational facilities are properly maintained.
- Work closely with the Engineering team on preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Monitor the condition of guest rooms, public areas, equipment and infrastructure.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
- Monitor energy and utility consumption.
- Plan capital expenditure requirements in coordination with management.
- Ensure the property maintains an appropriate balance between maintaining its character and delivering up-to-date guest comfort.
11. Sales, Marketing & Market Development
- Work closely with Sales & Marketing to strengthen the resort's market positioning.
- Identify opportunities in domestic and international leisure markets.
- Develop relationships with travel agents, tour operators, DMCs, corporate partners and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support promotional campaigns and destination marketing initiatives.
- Participate in trade shows, industry events and networking opportunities when required.
- Build strong relationships with key travel and hospitality partners.
- Represent the resort at appropriate industry forums.
12. Reputation Management
- Monitor guest reviews and online reputation across relevant platforms.
- Ensure timely responses to guest feedback in coordination with the appropriate team.
- Analyse recurring feedback and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain consistency between the resort's brand promise and actual guest experience.
- Encourage a culture where every guest interaction contributes positively to the resort's reputation.
13. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain high standards of guest and employee safety.
- Ensure appropriate fire and life-safety systems and procedures are implemented.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and drills.
- Ensure proper security arrangements across the property.
- Maintain emergency response and business-continuity procedures.
- Ensure relevant licences, permits, insurance and statutory documentation are maintained.
- Manage operational risks proactively.
14. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with key suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure vendor performance meets required quality and service standards.
- Negotiate effectively with vendors where required.
- Monitor procurement efficiency and cost effectiveness.
15. Strategic Planning
- Develop short-term and long-term operational strategies for the resort.
- Identify opportunities for business growth, new experiences and revenue generation.
- Analyse market trends and competitor positioning.
- Develop initiatives to strengthen occupancy during shoulder and low seasons.
- Support management in strategic decisions relating to the property.
- Ensure the resort remains competitive while retaining its unique identity and guest proposition.
Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration or a related field.
Experience
- 12–18 years of relevant experience in the hospitality industry.
- Minimum 4–5 years in a senior leadership role , preferably as General Manager / Resort Manager / Hotel Manager.
- Strong experience in luxury resorts, boutique resorts, experiential hospitality or destination properties .
