Forward Deployed Engineer
Role: Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)
Experience: 3-6 years in software, solutions, data engineering or technical consulting
Core focus: AI agents, workflow integration and production deployment
Role overview
Indegene is looking for a customer-facing Forward Deployed Engineer to turn operational challenges across healthcare and life sciences into practical, production-ready AI solutions. Working at the intersection of engineering, data, product and customer teams, you will map real workflows, identify high-value opportunities and build the integrations, automations and AI-enabled applications that improve how work gets done. You will stay accountable from discovery and prototyping through deployment, adoption and ongoing improvement.
What you will do
- Work directly with client stakeholders, business users, product managers and engineers to understand processes, data, constraints and deployment requirements across healthcare and life sciences operations.
- Translate ambiguous needs into clear requirements, solution designs, delivery plans and measurable outcomes; prioritize use cases by business value, feasibility, risk and readiness.
- Design, build and deploy AI agents, LLM-powered workflows and internal tools using suitable models, APIs, orchestration patterns and enterprise platforms.
- Integrate AI solutions with enterprise applications and data sources through APIs, databases, cloud services, files and workflow tools, accounting for identity, access, security and governance needs.
- Build and maintain reliable data ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines that combine structured and unstructured information, including databases, spreadsheets, documents and APIs.
- Implement data validation, observability and monitoring; investigate ingestion failures, schema changes, data quality issues and production incidents through resolution.
- Prototype rapidly, test with users, evaluate solution quality and safety, and iterate toward scalable, maintainable deployments across test and production environments.
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery, manage dependencies and risks, communicate decisions and progress, and support user training and adoption.
- Bring field learnings back to Indegene product and engineering teams; document reusable patterns and mentor colleagues as the practice grows.
What you will bring
- Equivalent practical experience or bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or a related technical discipline, or
- 3-6 years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, data engineering, technical consulting or a customer-facing technology role, including hands-on delivery of integrations or workflow automation.
- Practical experience with AI agents, LLM or GenAI APIs, prompt and context design, tool calling, evaluation,
and workflow orchestration; ability to select an appropriate approach for the task.
- Experience handling structured and unstructured data and preparing it for analytics, retrieval-augmented generation or other AI applications.
- Understanding of cloud and infrastructure environments, deployment practices, version control, logging, monitoring and production support.
- Clear communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity, explain technical trade-offs and build trust with technical and business users.
Helpful experience
- Experience delivering technology for healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, medical devices or other regulated environments; familiarity with privacy, security and responsible AI considerations.
- Exposure to Agile delivery, requirements management, backlog prioritization, sprint planning or technical product management.
- Experience with cloud platforms, containers, workflow automation tools, vector search or retrieval systems, and multi-model or multi-provider AI architectures.
- Experience supporting enterprise deployments, leading customer implementations, and improving solutions from real-world feedback.
How success is measured
You will be successful when deployed solutions solve clearly defined operational problems, integrate reliably with customer systems, meet agreed quality and governance expectations, and achieve sustained user adoption. You will also help teams shorten the path from discovery to value by reusing sound integration patterns and learning from production performance.
