Job Role – EHS Officer For Construction / MEP Projects
Position: EHS Officer / Safety Officer
Department: EHS / HSE
Industry: Construction – MEP Projects
Reporting To: EHS Manager / Project Manager
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with company EHS policies, project safety procedures, and applicable statutory requirements at the project site.
- Conduct daily site inspections to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
- Monitor safety practices for Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, and other MEP installation activities.
- Conduct Toolbox Talks, safety inductions, and daily safety briefings for employees, technicians, workers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure proper use of PPE such as safety helmets, safety shoes, gloves, safety harnesses, goggles, and other task-specific PPE.
- Monitor and control high-risk activities including:
- Work at Height
- Electrical Works
- Hot Work
- Lifting & Rigging
- Scaffolding
- Excavation
- Confined Space Entry
- Material Handling
- Use of Power Tools
- Ensure implementation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems for applicable activities.
- Inspect scaffolds, ladders, lifting equipment, power tools, electrical panels, cables, and other safety-critical equipment.
- Ensure proper barricading, signage, access/egress, housekeeping, and safe storage of materials at the project site.
- Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for project activities and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions and assist in incident investigation and corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain EHS records, including inspection reports,
toolbox talk records, training records, PPE records, incident reports, permits, and statutory documents.
- Coordinate with project engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and client representatives regarding safety requirements.
- Conduct regular emergency preparedness drills and ensure availability of fire extinguishers, first-aid facilities, emergency exits, and emergency contact information.
- Monitor compliance with client-specific EHS requirements and project safety standards.
- Stop or escalate unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to personnel, property, or the setting.
- Conduct periodic safety training and awareness programs for site personnel.
- Monitor environmental aspects such as waste disposal, dust, noise, spill control, and housekeeping.
- Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly EHS reports to the Project/EHS Manager.
- Support the project team in achieving zero-accident and continuous safety improvement objectives.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Safety / Fire & Safety / Environmental Health & Safety or relevant qualification.
- Relevant experience in construction and MEP projects.
- Knowledge of construction-site safety practices and applicable statutory requirements.
- Good knowledge of risk assessment, JSA, PTW, PPE, emergency procedures, and incident reporting.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to conduct safety training and toolbox talks.
- Ability to work independently at project sites and coordinate with multiple teams.
