About the Program
ProblemSolvers Lab (PSL) began with a simple idea: all students can engage in deep, higher- order thinking when they have the right environment and the right kind of mathematical experiences.
Across many classrooms in India, students rarely get opportunities to think aloud, explore structure, make conjectures, work with peers, or experience the satisfaction of figuring something out. PSL was created to bring these opportunities into everyday instruction.
Our work is grounded in a few design principles:
- Low-floor, high-ceiling tasks that allow every student to enter and stretch
- Productive struggle, where students test ideas, revise, and persist
- Seeing students as visualizers, experimenters, and problem-solvers, not passive recipients
Everything we do, with teachers and with students, rests on this approach.
Role Overview
We are hiring a Curriculum Designer to design and refine our problem solving curriculum. This role is about much more than writing lesson plans. It involves researching ideas, gathering insights from classrooms, consulting with experts, and experimenting with creative ways to make problem-solving joyful and rigorous.
You will have the opportunity to learn deeply about curriculum and pedagogy while collaborating with a team passionate about mathematics, puzzles, games, and problem-solving. You will also get the experience of marrying your ideas with ground realities.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Research & Design
- Research mathematical problems, puzzles, and global practices to inform curriculum design
- Develop coherent modules with clear goals and progression across grades
- Write detailed, teacher-friendly lesson plans that anticipate student thinking and support rich classroom discussions
- Develop explicit,
accessible student handouts, manipulatives, and other learning materials
- Align lessons with grade-level mathematics while preserving the depth of PSL’s problem-solving approach.
Classroom Testing and Improvement
- Pilot lessons and materials with students and teachers
- Observe classrooms, review student work, and identify what is and is not working
- Refine lessons and materials based on classroom evidence and feedback
- Gather and synthesize inputs from facilitators, teachers, program managers, and experts
Assessment and Evidence of Learning
- Design assessments and performance tasks that capture students’ problem-solving, collaboration, and intellectual risk-taking skills
- Develop student reflection tools and identify meaningful artefacts of learning
- Analyse student work and assessment results to strengthen the curriculum
Training and Program Support
- Support the design of induction and training sessions for teachers and facilitators
- Adapt lessons for different grades, languages, and classroom contexts
- Work closely with program and partnership teams to support curriculum alignment, classroom implementation, and learning from integration pilots
- Contribute to the design of hackathons, showcases, and other student-facing learning experiences
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 2 years of classroom experience teaching mathematics
- Master’s degree in Mathematics Education (preferred)
- Strong research, writing, and design skills
- Organized, thoughtful, detail-oriented, and creative
- Enjoys puzzles, games, and problem-solving, and brings that joy into curriculum design
- Proactive collaborator who can synthesize feedback into stronger curriculum design
- Passionate about mathematics and making problem-solving joyful and accessible
Skills and Mindsets
- Curious about student thinking: Pays close attention to how students approach problems, where they get stuck, and what helps them move forward
- Strong curriculum thinker: Can connect learning goals, lesson design, classroom facilitation, and assessment
- Collaborative learner: Seeks feedback, listens carefully, and adapts based on classroom evidence and input from teachers and colleagues
- Iterative and reflective: Is willing to test ideas, learn from what does not work, and revise materials substantially
- Ownership and attention to detail: Manages work independently, follows through, and maintains high standards for accuracy and clarity
- Creative problem-solver: Enjoys exploring multiple possibilities and finding practical ways to make rigorous learning accessible and joyful
What We Offer
- Significant ownership in shaping PSL’s problem-solving curriculum
- Opportunities to test ideas in classrooms and learn directly from students and teachers
- Close collaboration with educators, mathematics education experts, and program teams
- Autonomy to research, experiment, and improve the curriculum through multiple iterations
- Opportunities to deepen your understanding of mathematics education, curriculum design, and problem-solving pedagogy
