Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter – Commercial Lines to evaluate and manage risk for a diverse portfolio of commercial insurance clients. The role involves underwriting non-employee benefit (Non-EB) products such as property, engineering, liability, and other commercial risks while working closely with insurers, brokers, and clients to deliver tailored insurance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

· Assess and underwrite commercial risks including Property, Engineering, Liability, Marine, and Miscellaneous Lines.

· Analyze client data, financials, exposure details, and loss history to determine risk acceptability.

· Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with insurers to secure competitive coverage.

· Prepare and review policy wordings, quotations, binders, and endorsements.

· Ensure accuracy and compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.





· Collaborate with sales and client servicing teams to structure customized insurance solutions.

· Provide risk management insights and recommend mitigation strategies to clients.

· Assist in claims review by validating coverage and policy intent.

· Maintain strong relationships with insurers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

· Track market trends, pricing movements, and regulatory changes impacting commercial lines.

· Support placement of complex and large-value risks across multiple insurers.

Skills & Competencies

· Strong understanding of commercial insurance products and underwriting principles.

· Excellent analytical and risk assessment capabilities.

· Negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

· High attention to detail and accuracy.

· Ability to interpret policy wordings and technical documentation.

· Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

· Ability to manage multiple accounts in a rapid-paced environment.

· Proficiency in MS Excel and underwriting tools/systems.

Qualifications & Experience

· Graduate in any discipline; MBA or Insurance-related qualification preferred.

· Certifications such as III (Insurance Institute of India) or equivalent are an advantage.

· 5–7 years of experience in underwriting commercial lines (Non-EB) or property insurance.

· Fresh graduates with relevant education and strong foundational knowledge may be considered for junior roles.
