Role: Cloud Architect
Cloud Operations and Automation
Role Summary
This is the senior-most cloud technical role on the team and the direct counterpart to our US-based Principal Cloud Architect. You will lead the cloud team technically, help build 24x7 cloud operations, and drive an automation-first approach to how we build, migrate, and run customer environments, primarily in OCI with a growing Azure footprint. The role is hands-on: you will write automation, execute complex migrations, and own Tier 3 escalations, while mentoring engineers and advising leadership on how the team should grow.
This is a technical leadership role first. People management experience is a plus but not required; we will help you grow into it. The focus is cloud platform engineering: infrastructure, networking, security, and automation. Deep expertise in Oracle applications or databases is not required.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and 24x7 Operations
- Serve as technical lead for the cloud team and primary counterpart to the Principal Cloud Architect.
- Help design and stand up 24x7 support coverage: shift model, escalation paths, on-call, and handoffs with the US team.
- Assess team skills and gaps, recommend roles and levels needed, and take part in interviewing and hiring.
- Mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers, including early-career hires, and set standards for code, design, and change review.
- Act as final escalation point for complex incidents; lead root cause analysis and write customer-ready RCAs.
- Work a local day or second shift with overlap for handoffs to the US team, and participate in an escalation on-call rotation for critical incidents.
- Drive and maintain the team's runbook and knowledge base program, ensuring the engineers closest to the work document it for Tier 1 and Tier 2 use.
Automation First
- Build and maintain reusable automation using OpenTofu for infrastructure and Ansible for configuration management, with Bicep where Azure-native deployment requires it.
- Write Python automation to replace manual build, migration, and operational tasks.
- Build and run CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Enterprise for deploying and updating customer infrastructure.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools effectively and within company data-handling policy.
Cloud Migrations
- Lead execution of customer migrations from data center and private cloud environments into OCI: replication, configuration, testing, cutover, and post-migration support.
- Execute from documented runbooks, improve them, and convert repeatable steps into automation.
- Plan and troubleshoot migration networking: FastConnect, IPSec VPN, DRG, BGP routing, and DNS.
Platform Standardization
- Move existing OCI customers onto the standard shared services and network model, and extend the same patterns to Azure.
- Build and maintain landing zone, networking, and security patterns: OCI VCN/DRG and IAM/compartments; Azure VNet, hub-spoke, Virtual WAN, and Entra ID/RBAC; Vault/Key Vault; Cloud Guard and Defender for Cloud; policy-as-code guardrails.
Operations and Reliability
- Build and tune monitoring, alerting, and logging (OCI Monitoring and Logging, Azure Monitor and Log Analytics).
- Execute disaster recovery, backup, and patching for customer workloads, and automate them where possible.
- Enforce tagging, policy, and cost standards; identify rightsizing and other cost optimizations.
- Report status, risks, and recommendations clearly in writing to the Principal Architect and delivery leadership and join customer technical calls when needed.
Required Skills and Experience
- 8+ years in infrastructure engineering, including 4+ years hands-on in public cloud.
- Broad hands-on experience running production workloads in at least one major public cloud (OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Terraform or OpenTofu: reusable modules, remote state management, and Git-based workflows.
- Ansible for configuration management: designing playbooks and roles and integrating them with infrastructure-as-code pipelines (or strong experience with a comparable tool such as Chef, Puppet,
or PowerShell DSC).
- Python automation: writing production-quality scripts and tools using cloud SDKs (OCI, Azure, AWS) and REST APIs, including event-driven automation triggered by webhooks, cloud events, or serverless functions.
- CI/CD pipelines and GitHub: repositories, pull request workflow, and GitHub Actions or equivalent.
- Comfortable working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux administration and troubleshooting.
- Cloud networking: virtual networks, hub-spoke designs, VPN and private connectivity, routing, and DNS.
- Cloud security fundamentals: IAM, network segmentation, key management, and policy guardrails.
- Tier 3 troubleshooting and root cause analysis in a 24x7 managed-services or MSP environment.
- Technical leadership: setting technical direction, reviewing the work of other engineers, and mentoring.
- Strong written and spoken English; comfortable working directly with US customers and leadership; produces explicit runbooks and documentation.
- Lifelong learner: self-driven to research, study documentation and training videos, and figure out unfamiliar technologies on the fly across widely varied customer environments.
- Sound judgment in handling customer data securely and working within compliance requirements such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- OCI hands-on production experience (strongly preferred). Candidates with strong AWS or Azure backgrounds who are ready to ramp on OCI are encouraged to apply.
- Azure and/or AWS hands-on production experience.
- Workload migrations into public cloud: replication, cutover, and validation.
- Additional scripting and configuration languages beyond Python, such as PowerShell, Bash, YAML, and JSON.
- Monitoring and observability tooling (OCI Monitoring, Azure Monitor, CloudWatch, or similar).
- Disaster recovery and backup tooling (OCI Full Stack DR, Azure Site Recovery, or similar).
- Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Experience building or scaling a 24x7 or follow-the-sun operations team.
- People management experience.
- Certifications: OCI Architect Professional, AZ-104/AZ-305, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
