Career Counsellor (Freelance/Part time)
Intersect · Remote, India
About Intersect
Intersect (intersectcareers.com) is a career discovery platform for students aged 14 and above. Most career tools match students to a short list of well-known jobs. Intersect surfaces the fields that appear where interests combine, such as psychology and design, or biology and data.
We are launching a pilot with a partner school in India and are looking for a counsellor to guide students through it.
The role
Students explore careers on Intersect. You then meet them one-on-one to help them make sense of what they found and plan concrete next steps.
What you'll do
- Review each student's Intersect profile before their session, including saved fields, interests and missions completed.
- Run 1:1 online sessions of 30 minutes to 1 hour with students, and with parents where needed.
- Help students narrow their options, understand pathways (Indian and international universities, courses and alternative routes) and set clear next steps.
- Run follow-up check-ins to track each student's progress.
- Log short notes after each session in a shared sheet, and prepare summary notes for parents and the school.
- Flag any student wellbeing concerns promptly to the school's designated contact.
- Share feedback on the platform. Your input directly shapes the product.
Commitment and compensation
- Flexible hours, based on student bookings and agreed with the school.
- Fully remote. All sessions are online.
- Freelance engagement,
starting with the pilot.
- Compensation: hourly rate, proposed by you. Agreed with school.
You have
- A career counselling certification, or a degree in psychology or education (required).
- Experience counselling students aged 14 to 18 in a school, independent or ed-consulting setting (required).
- Strong knowledge of Indian and international higher-education pathways.
- Comfort with digital tools. You'll be trained on Intersect.
- Curiosity to research unfamiliar fields. Many Intersect fields will be new to you too: what the work involves, which companies hire for it, and how people get in.
- Warm, clear communication in English and Hindi.
Our standards
- Independent guidance: no commissions or referral fees from colleges, universities or admissions agencies.
- No paid add-on products or assessments offered to Intersect students.
- Any assessment tools must be validated and agreed with Intersect in advance. Fingerprint-based or other unvalidated tests are not used.
- Student information stays confidential and is used only for counselling.
- Willingness to complete a background check, as the role involves working with minors.
