The organization works closely with ambitious students and families to help them navigate academic and career decisions and build compelling applications for highly selective universities across the US and UK , including Oxbridge and Ivy League institutions.
As the organization continues to strengthen its admissions team, it is looking for talented young writers and editors who want to use their writing skills in work that can genuinely influence a student's academic journey.
About the Role
We are looking for an Associate Writer – University Admissions & Essays who has an exceptional command of written English and understands that great writing isn't about making everyone sound the same.
You'll work closely with students on personal statements, university essays, SOPs, activity descriptions, CVs and other application material for universities across the US and UK.
Importantly, you will not write essays for students . Your role is to help students discover what they actually want to say, structure their thinking, strengthen their drafts and communicate their experiences authentically in their own voice. That's a core principle of the organization's editorial approach.
Job Roles & Responsibilities1. Student Brainstorming & Story Development
- Conduct guided brainstorming sessions with students.
- Help students identify meaningful experiences, perspectives and ideas worth writing about.
- Ask thoughtful questions that help uncover stronger stories.
- Help students translate experiences into clear narrative directions.
- Ensure the student's individual personality and voice remain central throughout the process.
1. Essay Review & Feedback
- Review drafts of university essays, personal statements and SOPs.
- Provide clear, structured and actionable written feedback.
- Identify what is working, what needs improvement and why.
- Help students strengthen structure, argument, storytelling and overall impact.
- Give honest feedback in a constructive way that encourages students rather than discouraging them.

Editing & Quality Control
- Line-edit student writing for clarity, grammar, structure and tone.
- Ensure essays remain within required word and character limits.
- Evaluate whether responses actually address the university's prompt.
- Maintain consistency while preserving each student's natural writing voice.
- Manage multiple drafts, versions and feedback cycles accurately.
1. University & Program Research
- Research universities, academic program, faculty, courses and campus opportunities.
- Help students develop specific and credible “Why this university?” essays.
- Ensure application writing reflects genuine research rather than generic statements.
- Work with the wider admissions team to understand each student's university strategy.
1. Complete Application Review
- Review personal statements, SOPs, essays, activity lists and CVs as part of the complete application.
- Ensure different components complement rather than unnecessarily repeat one another.
- Help maintain a coherent story across the student's overall application.
- Identify inconsistencies, gaps or areas requiring further refinement.
1. Editorial Research & Knowledge Building
- Maintain and contribute to internal prompt banks.
- Build annotated examples and editorial resources.
- Document useful writing and feedback approaches.
- Contribute to style notes and resources that improve editorial quality across the wider team.
Key KPIs Writing & Editorial Quality
- Quality, clarity and usefulness of feedback provided on student drafts.
- Accuracy of grammar, structure, tone and editing.
- Ability to preserve the student's authentic voice while improving their writing.
- Quality and consistency of final application material.
Student Development
- Effectiveness of brainstorming and feedback sessions.
- Ability to help students independently improve their drafts.
- Quality of communication and rapport with students.
- Timely completion of feedback cycles.
Application Quality
- Alignment of essays with individual university prompts.
- Accuracy and specificity of university/program research.
- Consistency across essays, SOPs, activity lists and CVs.
- Adherence to required word limits and deadlines.
Ownership & Execution
- Ability to manage multiple students and drafts simultaneously.
- Discipline in maintaining document versions and deadlines.
- Responsiveness and follow-through.
- Attention to detail and minimal avoidable errors.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree completed or completing in 2026 ; a humanities background is a plus.
- 0–1 year of experience; exceptional fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Exceptional written English and a natural instinct for editing.
- Solid understanding of tone, structure, grammar and storytelling.
- An ear for individual voice-you can improve someone's writing without making it sound like you.
- Ability to give honest feedback with tact and empathy.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong discipline around deadlines, word counts and document versions.
- Comfortable using Google Docs, including comments and Suggesting mode.
