Role Description
Ambitio is seeking full-time Admissions Editors to join its core editorial team. This role is focused on the end-to-end drafting and editing of high-stakes admissions documents, with a strong emphasis on PhD applications, research-driven Statements of Purpose, and proposal writing.
The Editor will be responsible for engaging with applicants, interpreting university-specific prompts, and producing original, intellectually sound admissions narratives. This role requires solid independent judgment, a deep understanding of what admissions committees evaluate, and the ability to translate a student’s academic and research trajectory into clear, credible writing. Use of generative AI tools for drafting is strictly not permitted.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and structurally refine admissions documents including Statements of Purpose, personal statements, research proposals, and academic essays.
- Research and interpret university- and program-specific prompts, faculty focus areas, and departmental expectations to ensure accurate alignment in each submission.
- Work extensively on PhD applications, ensuring transparent articulation of research interests, research questions, methodological awareness, and disciplinary grounding.
- Apply differentiated editorial frameworks for Master’s versus PhD SOPs,
avoiding generic motivation-based narratives in research-oriented applications.
- Engage directly with applicants to extract relevant academic, research, and experiential material, and guide them toward stronger intellectual positioning.
- Ensure clarity of argument, logical progression, academic tone, and linguistic precision across all drafts.
- Meet tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial and ethical standards, with zero reliance on AI-generated content.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency between applicant profiles, program targeting, and final submissions.
Qualifications
- Exceptional drafting, editing, and proofreading skills, with a demonstrated ability to restructure weak or unfocused essays.
- Robust understanding of global admissions writing, particularly for research-focused and doctoral programs.
- Proven experience working on PhD SOPs, research proposals, or academic writing; this is a core requirement.
- Ability to evaluate research intent for clarity, coherence, feasibility, and alignment with academic programs.
- High editorial judgment and sensitivity to voice, credibility, and admissions-reader expectations.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple applications simultaneously, and perform consistently in a remote, deadline-driven environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related discipline is preferred.
Who This Role Is For
- Editors who understand that admissions essays are strategic academic documents, not creative writing exercises.
- Professionals who can engage deeply with a student’s profile and produce original, structured drafts rather than surface-level edits.
- Editors who clearly understand why PhD applications demand research clarity and intellectual direction, not aspirational or career-only narratives.
- Individuals who value precision, accountability, and ethical editorial practices.
Experience - 3-6 Years
Employment Type - Full-Time
Working Days - 6 (Mon-Sat)
Timings - 11AM-8PM
