We’re Hiring: Freelance Copyeditor
DataWorks is looking for an experienced Freelance Copyeditor to support our publishing projects. We are seeking someone with a strong command of English, excellent attention to detail, and solid experience working with bibliographies, references, citations, and publishing style guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
• Copyedit manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, consistency, clarity, and readability.
• Identify and correct inconsistencies, ambiguities, and errors while preserving the author’s intended meaning and voice.
• Review and standardize references, citations, footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographies.
• Apply and maintain in-house guidelines as well as established style guides such as The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS).
• Apply the SBL Handbook of Style, 2nd edition (1999), where required, particularly for biblical studies, theological, and related academic content.
• Ensure consistency in the formatting of biblical references, quotations, abbreviations, notes, citations,



and bibliographic entries according to the applicable SBL and Chicago style requirements.
• Prepare clear and appropriate editorial queries when necessary.
• Work accurately within project specifications and agreed deadlines.

Core Requirements
• Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Strong command of written English, including grammar, punctuation, and usage.
• Sound knowledge of bibliography, reference, and citation formatting.
• Positive working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS).
• Familiarity with the SBL Handbook of Style, 2nd edition (1999), is required.
• Experience with biblical studies, theology, religious studies, or related academic content would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and an ability to maintain consistency across long and complex manuscripts.
