nQWR Interactive Solutions designs and manufactures head-worn computing devices. Our XR headsets and smart glasses are Android-based, and we have shipped over 50,000 devices across 17 countries. We also build HUMBL, a voice-native AI app.
nAbout the role
nWe are looking for an Android developer with 2 to 5 years of experience, to work on software that runs on hardware we build ourselves.
nAndroid here is not an app on someone else's phone. It is the operating environment of the product, and it ships in the box. The role spans system-level work on the device itself and application-level work on the apps that run on it.
nKey Responsibilities
nBuild and maintain system applications for our Android-based XR headsets and smart glasses, including the launcher, settings and device services.
nWork with hardware and firmware on device bring-up, sensor integration, display and audio paths, and power behaviour.
nSupport AOSP customisation,



system image builds and over-the-air update flows.
nDebug across the boundary between application, framework and hardware, using ADB, logcat, systrace and device logs.
nBuild and maintain native Android applications for our devices, in Kotlin and Java.
nContribute to the Android build of HUMBL, including audio capture, background services, notifications and permissions.
nIntegrate APIs and SDKs, including speech, AI and analytics services.
nWork with design to build interfaces that function on a head-worn display rather than a phone screen.
nWrite testable code, maintain unit and instrumentation tests, and work with QA on device test matrices.
nOwn your releases through to the Play Store or the device OTA channel.
nProfile and fix performance, memory, thermal and battery issues, which matter far more on a head-worn device than on a phone.
