OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To contribute to the prevention and control of vaccine preventable diseases (VPD), with special focus on improving routine immunization coverage, measles and rubella elimination, maintaining elimination of polio as well as maternal and neonatal tetanus and introduction of new vaccines. To assist Member countries to establish sustainable systems that ensure good access to high-quality vaccines at affordable prices including under-utilized or current vaccines of public health importance, vaccines.

Description Of Duties

Under the direct supervision of Coordinator, IVD overall guidance of HDC, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

• Support countries with actions for routine immunization coverage improvements, including an analysis of the cause of low coverage and development, implementation, and monitoring of operational plans to overcome the barriers to achieve high immunization coverage.
• Develop guidelines and facilitate training activities related to immunization and vaccine preventable disease control.




• Technical assistance to countries for overall immunization policy development as well as development of costed multi-year plans for immunization.
• Review opportunities for integrating immunization services with the health system in countries and provide technical support including monitoring the implementation of Gavi supported health system and immunization system activities. --Support surveillance of adverse events following immunization (AEFI).
• Support relevant staff in IVD for surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and use disease surveillance data to improve immunization strategies.
• Support at regional and country level for demand generation for vaccination including collaboration with other partner organizations.
• Support issues related to the availability and supply of quality vaccines and logistics.
