Job Title: Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer Messaging & SMS Infrastructure
Department: Telecom Network Operations / CPaaS Infrastructure
Employment Type: Full time (24/7 Rotational Shifts)
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Electronics Engineering.
Experience: 4-8 years of dedicated hands-on experience inside a telecom NOC, CPaaS provider, SMS aggregator hub, or mobile operator gateway.
Role Summary:
The Messaging NOC Operations Engineer monitors, supports, and optimizes high-volume, international A2P (Application-to-Person), P2P (Person-to-Person), and A2A (Application-to-Application) SMS routing platforms. You will handle real-time traffic analysis, troubleshoot interconnect issues across SMSCs using SMPP and SS7/SIGTRAN protocols, manage global telecom vendor SLAs, and mitigate message delivery anomalies or telecom fraud.
Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure & Traffic Monitoring
Real-Time Surveillance: Monitor global text traffic, network stability, and critical delivery alerts using advanced SMS hub monitoring tools.
KPI Tracking: Analyze performance indicators like Delivery Receipt (DLR) ratios, message latency, throughput (SMS/sec), and delivery failure rates.
Traffic Classification: Supervise complex data flows across A2P (e.g., OTPs, alerts), P2P (inter-subscriber), and A2A message structures.
2. Protocol Maintenance & Troubleshooting
SMPP Session Control: Provision, manage, and audit direct SMPP (v3.4/v5) binds (Transmitter, Receiver, Transceiver) with aggregators and enterprise customers.
Signaling & SS7 Layer: Diagnose core signaling layer traffic including SS7/SIGTRAN (M3UA, SCCP, TCAP,
MAP) for Mobile Terminated (MT) and Mobile Originated (MO) message flows.
Packet Analysis: Run packet captures via Wireshark and tcpdump to identify connection drops, malformed Protocol Data Units (PDUs), and network response errors.
3. Routing Optimization & Vendor Relations
LCR Optimization: Modify SMSC configuration scripts to enforce Least Cost Routing (LCR) strategies alongside optimal quality paths based on MCC/MNC codes.
Incident & SLA Governance: Open, manage, and escalate Trouble Tickets (TT) with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and clearinghouses during service disruptions.
Fraud & Anti-Spam Control: Detect and block artificial inflation of traffic (AIT), bypass grey-routing, phishing runs, and illegal SMS spam signatures.
Required Technical Skills
SMS Protocols: Advanced proficiency in SMPP 3.4/5.0, GSM MAP, and HTTP/REST SMS Gateway APIs.
Telecom Signaling: Solid grasp of SS7, SIGTRAN, SCTP, and HLR lookup mechanisms.
Networking Foundations: Comprehensive understanding of IP routing, TCP/IP sequencing, VPN tunnels, and DNS mapping.
Operating Systems: Comfortable working within Linux/Unix command-line interfaces for log parsing (grep, awk, sed).
Data Encodings: Familiarity with telecom payload types (GSM 03.38, UCS-2 binary SMS, and multi-part concatenated messaging).
