Group Health Underwriting - 4+ Years - Mumbai

A growing general insurance organization is looking for a Group Underwriter - Health Insurance to evaluate, price and structure group health insurance proposals for corporate and institutional clients. This is a foundational role offering the opportunity to help build group underwriting philosophy, guidelines, rating models and processes from the ground up while managing new business, renewals and portfolio performance.

Location - Mumbai.

The organization is developing its health insurance business with an emphasis on strong underwriting practices, technology-led processes and scalable operating frameworks.

Responsibilities - * Evaluate group health insurance proposals covering new business, renewals and mid-term additions for corporates, SMEs and affinity groups.

- Assess group size, industry risk, demographic profile and claims history to determine risk exposure.
- Determine appropriate premium rates, loadings, terms, conditions and coverage limits based on risk assessment and actuarial guidance.
- Review claims experience, loss ratios, claims trends and large claims to support renewal pricing and portfolio decisions.
- Evaluate and approve or refer non-standard risks, large groups and cases outside standard underwriting guidelines.
- Coordinate with Actuarial and Reinsurance teams on pricing models, treaty limits and facultative placements.




- Develop and continuously refine underwriting guidelines, rating cards, referral matrices and risk appetite frameworks.
- Define underwriting workflows, documentation requirements and turnaround-time standards.

Requirements - * Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Insurance Business Administration or a related field.
- 4-8 years of experience in Group Health Insurance Underwriting with a health/general insurer, reinsurer or broking organization.
- Solid working knowledge of group health products and employer-employee schemes.
- Experience with experience rating methodology and IRDAI underwriting and regulatory guidelines.
- Demonstrated experience underwriting a range of group sizes, including large corporate accounts.
- Exposure to reinsurance processes.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret claims and risk data.
