Senior Full-Stack AI Application Developer & Technical Lead

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack AI Application Developer & Technical Lead to help us build sophisticated custom cloud applications that combine traditional software engineering with modern AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on senior engineering position. You will initially work directly with company leadership to take an existing AI-assisted application prototype and transform it into a secure, scalable, production-ready cloud application. Longer term, you will help architect and develop custom AI-enabled software platforms for our company and our clients.

We are looking for someone who can do much more than write isolated features. The right candidate can understand a business problem, evaluate an existing prototype or workflow, recommend the appropriate technical architecture, build the application, integrate third-party systems and AI services, deploy it to the cloud, and maintain it in production.

IMPORTANT: This is a hands-on software engineering position. We are not looking for someone whose AI experience consists primarily of using ChatGPT, prompt engineering, no-code automation platforms, or AI website/app builders. You must have substantial experience writing, deploying, and maintaining production application code.

Primary Responsibilities

Full-Stack Application Development

- Architect and develop complete modern web applications from frontend through backend.
- Build responsive, production-quality user interfaces and application workflows.
- Develop backend services, business logic, databases, APIs, authentication, permissions, and administrative systems.
- Design applications for maintainability, performance, security, and future scalability.
- Write clean, well-structured, documented, testable code.
- Use Git and professional development/deployment workflows.
- Diagnose and resolve application issues across the complete technology stack.

AI & LLM Application Development

- Integrate modern LLM and AI APIs into production applications.
- Design AI-powered workflows that combine application data, business logic, external APIs, and LLM capabilities.
- Implement structured AI outputs, tool/function calling, retrieval and RAG architectures when appropriate.
- Work with embeddings, vector search/databases, document processing, and knowledge retrieval where appropriate.
- Develop AI assistants, intelligent search, document/data analysis, workflow automation, and agent-like functionality.
- Design appropriate safeguards, validation, error handling, logging, monitoring, and human review processes for AI-generated results.
- Evaluate AI models and architectures based on accuracy, latency, reliability, privacy, and operating cost.
- Understand when conventional software logic is more appropriate than AI.

Prototype-to-Production Engineering

One of the first major projects for this position will involve an existing application prototype created using Base44, an AI-assisted application development platform.

You do NOT need previous Base44 experience but it would be great if you did.

You must, however, be capable of reviewing an existing prototype, understanding its workflows, data structures, user experience, integrations, and business requirements, and determining how the application should be architected for long-term production use.

This may include rebuilding or replacing portions of prototype-generated functionality with conventional production code and infrastructure.

Cloud Architecture & DevOps

- Design and deploy secure cloud-based application architectures.
- Configure and manage application hosting, databases, object/file storage, background jobs, APIs, secrets, environments, and related infrastructure.
- Implement development, staging, and production environments.
- Establish deployment processes and CI/CD workflows.
- Implement application monitoring, logging, backups, recovery procedures, and performance monitoring.
- Design systems with security, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency in mind.

API & Business System Integrations

- Design and consume REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth integrations, and other third-party services.
- Integrate custom applications with business platforms such as CRM systems, project-management platforms, accounting systems, email systems, document platforms, analytics systems, and other SaaS products.
- Troubleshoot complex integration and data synchronization issues.
- Design systems that can consolidate workflows currently spread across multiple business applications.

Technical Leadership

- Help determine architecture, technology stacks,



development standards, and engineering best practices.
- Translate business requirements into technical plans and development milestones.
- Evaluate technical feasibility and identify risks before development begins.
- Provide realistic development estimates and communicate technical issues clearly.
- Document application architecture, APIs, deployment processes, and important engineering decisions.
- Work collaboratively with other developers and technical team members.
- As this division grows, potentially help lead additional developers and multiple custom software projects.

Business & Product Thinking

We are specifically looking for an engineer who can think beyond individual coding tasks.

Our long-term goal is to develop custom cloud applications that help businesses replace fragmented collections of software, spreadsheets, manual processes, and disconnected workflows with purpose-built systems.

You should be comfortable learning how a business operates, identifying inefficiencies, understanding user requirements, and recommending how software and AI can improve those processes.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong full-stack web application development experience.
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying production applications—not only prototypes or personal projects.
- Strong modern JavaScript/TypeScript experience.
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, or comparable technologies.
- Strong backend development experience using Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or comparable production technologies.
- Robust relational database and SQL experience, including data modeling.
- Experience designing and integrating REST APIs, webhooks, and third-party services.
- Experience with authentication, authorization, roles, permissions, and application security.
- Professional Git/version-control experience.
- Experience deploying and operating cloud applications.
- Professional experience integrating AI/LLM APIs into software applications.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to independently research technologies and solve complex technical problems.
- Strong written and spoken English communication.

Highly Valuable Experience

- OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or comparable LLM APIs.
- RAG, embeddings, vector databases/search, and AI knowledge systems.
- AI agents, tool/function calling, and multi-step AI workflows.

The Person We Are Looking For

You are a senior developer who enjoys solving complex problems and taking ownership of complete applications. You are comfortable being given a business objective rather than a perfectly defined programming task.

You ask questions, investigate requirements, identify potential problems, recommend solutions, and then execute.

You are equally comfortable discussing application architecture, writing code, debugging an API integration, reviewing a database schema, deploying an application, and explaining a technical decision to a non-technical business owner.

You also understand that adding AI to an application does not automatically make the application better. You can determine where AI provides meaningful value and where conventional application logic is the better engineering solution.

We will be particularly interested in understanding:

- What portions of those applications you personally designed and coded.
- The frontend, backend, database, and cloud architecture you used.

- Technical problems you encountered and how you solved them.
- How you moved applications from development into production.

Candidates may also be asked to complete a practical technical exercise designed to evaluate architecture, coding, debugging, and problem-solving ability.
