Job Summary
Bloomingdale International School is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centred MYP / DP Biology & Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) Facilitator to join our academic team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, inquiry-driven Biology and ESS learning experiences aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks and the academic requirements of Bloomingdale International School.
The role requires a strong understanding of Biology and environmental sciences, the ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, and a commitment to developing students as critical thinkers, ethical decision-makers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners.
The facilitator will also contribute to interdisciplinary learning, Theory of Knowledge (ToK), student well-being, assessment, and the broader academic and co-curricular life of the school.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning

- Plan, develop, and deliver Biology and ESS courses in accordance with IB MYP/DP curriculum frameworks, BIS curriculum guidelines, and school requirements.
- Develop engaging, inquiry-based and concept-driven learning experiences that encourage students to explore scientific concepts and their real-world applications.
- Prepare and deliver well-structured lesson plans using a variety of teaching strategies, models, resources, and technologies.
- Differentiate teaching and learning to meet the individual needs, learning styles, academic abilities, and prior achievement levels of students.
- Encourage students to develop scientific thinking, research skills, problem-solving abilities, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Integrate local and global environmental issues into learning wherever appropriate.
- Provide opportunities for practical investigation, laboratory work, field studies, experimentation, and scientific inquiry.
- Create a positive, creative, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment both indoors and outdoors.

MYP & DP Curriculum Delivery

- Develop learning experiences aligned with relevant MYP concepts, global contexts, approaches to learning (ATL), and assessment criteria.
- Plan and deliver DP Biology and ESS learning in alignment with relevant IB subject requirements.
- Support students in developing independent learning, research, academic writing, and critical-thinking skills.
- Guide students in applying scientific knowledge to real-world environmental, social, and ethical challenges.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary learning opportunities across subject areas.
- Support students in understanding connections between science, society, technology, and the environment.

Assessment & Student Progress

- Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with IB assessment principles.
- Prepare assignments, practical activities, projects, tests, and examinations to monitor student understanding and progress.
- Regularly observe, monitor, assess, and document student achievement and development.
- Provide timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback to support student growth.
- Maintain accurate records of academic performance, attendance, participation, and assessment outcomes.
- Support students in understanding assessment expectations and developing strategies for improvement.




- Contribute to internal assessments and other relevant DP assessment requirements as applicable.

Practical & Laboratory Learning

- Plan and facilitate safe and meaningful Biology and ESS laboratory activities and investigations.
- Ensure appropriate laboratory safety procedures are followed by students at all times.
- Prepare and maintain resources, equipment, materials, and learning environments required for practical activities.
- Promote responsible and ethical approaches to scientific investigation and environmental studies.
- Organize fieldwork and outdoor learning experiences where appropriate.

Student Well-being & Pastoral Support

- Maintain positive classroom discipline and uphold high standards of student behaviour and safety.
- Ensure student safety within classrooms, laboratories, school premises, field trips, and assigned supervision duties.
- Undertake pastoral responsibilities and provide appropriate academic and personal support to students.
- Identify student learning or well-being concerns and work collaboratively with relevant staff and leadership to provide appropriate support.
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, culturally responsive, and supportive learning environment.

Parent & Stakeholder Engagement

- Maintain effective communication with parents regarding student progress, achievement, attendance, participation, and areas for development.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs), student conferences, and other parent engagement activities.
- Maintain appropriate records and communicate student development through PTMs, reports, diary notes, and other school-approved communication channels.
- Collaborate with coordinators, teachers, counsellors, and school leadership to support student success.

ToK & Interdisciplinary Learning

- Contribute to the development of Theory of Knowledge (ToK) within the subject area.
- Encourage students to critically examine how scientific knowledge is developed, interpreted, justified, and applied.
- Explore connections between Biology, ESS, ethics, technology, society, and other areas of knowledge.
- Support interdisciplinary projects and learning experiences that connect scientific understanding with global and local issues.

Professional Development & Collaboration

- Work collaboratively within and across academic teams to develop effective teaching and learning practices.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, moderation, professional learning, and school initiatives.
- Engage in continuous career development and remain updated with IB curriculum developments and educational practices.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the IB and BIS mission, strategic priorities, values, and long-term academic goals.
- Support and encourage professional growth within the teaching team.

Qualifications & ExperienceEssential

- Postgraduate Degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Zoology, Botany, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in MYP and/or DP Biology.
- Strong subject knowledge in Biology and relevant environmental science concepts.
- Demonstrated experience in lesson planning, assessment, differentiation, and student-centred learning.




- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.

Preferred

- PGDIE, CIDTL, B.Ed., or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Previous experience teaching DP Biology and/or ESS.
- IB MYP/DP teaching experience across multiple grade levels.
- IB Category 1 or higher workshop/training in Biology, ESS, or a relevant subject area.
- Experience with inquiry-based, concept-based, and interdisciplinary learning.
- Familiarity with IB assessment practices and approaches to teaching and learning.
- Experience integrating educational technology into teaching and learning.
