Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented EPUB Developer to join our digital publishing team. The candidate will be responsible for creating, converting, formatting, testing, and validating EPUB/eBooks according to publishing standards and client requirements.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with EPUB 2/EPUB 3, HTML, CSS, XML, and eBook validation tools. Knowledge of PDF-to-EPUB conversion and accessibility standards will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and convert digital books into EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 formats.
- Convert source files such as PDF, Word, InDesign, and XML into structured EPUB files.
- Create and modify HTML/XHTML, CSS, XML, OPF, NCX and navigation documents.
- Ensure proper formatting of text, images, tables, footnotes, references, hyperlinks, and page navigation.
- Implement and maintain EPUB navigation and Table of Contents (TOC).
- Perform EPUB validation using tools such as EPUBCheck.
- Identify and fix validation errors, rendering issues, broken links, formatting problems, and structural issues.
- Test EPUB files across different eBook readers and platforms.
- Ensure proper image resolution, sizing, placement, and alt text.
- Work with production and quality-control teams to resolve technical issues.
- Follow client-specific EPUB specifications and publishing guidelines.
- Perform quality checks before final delivery to clients.
- Troubleshoot EPUB rendering and compatibility issues.
- Maintain project documentation and production standards.
- Handle multiple projects/files while meeting daily and weekly delivery targets.

Required Skills

- Valuable knowledge of EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 standards.
- Strong knowledge of HTML/XHTML and CSS.
- Basic to good knowledge of XML.




- Knowledge of OPF, NCX, NAV, TOC and EPUB package structure.
- Experience with EPUBCheck and EPUB validation.
- Understanding of responsive layouts and fixed-layout EPUB.
- Basic knowledge of image formats and optimization.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred / Additional Skills

- Knowledge of PDF Accessibility / WCAG / Section 508 / PDF/UA.
- Experience with accessible EPUB / EPUB Accessibility.
- Knowledge of ARIA roles, semantic HTML and accessibility metadata.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign and other publishing tools.
- Knowledge of JavaScript is an advantage.
- Experience in digital publishing or eBook production.
- Knowledge of automated EPUB conversion or scripting using Python is an added advantage.

Educational Qualification

- Any Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, English, Publishing, or a related field.
- Candidates with relevant technical/digital publishing experience may also be considered.

Experience

1–4 years of experience in EPUB/eBook development, digital publishing, XML/HTML development, or a related field.

Freshers with strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML and EPUB may also be considered for suitable positions.
