- Review and approve Basic Engineering Design Package (BEDP) submitted by Design Consultant
- Validate design philosophy, single line diagrams (SLD), equipment ratings, protection schemes, and system studies
- Ensure compliance with:
- CEA regulations
- CERC/State Grid Code
- CTU/STU connectivity requirements
- NBC and safety standards
- Establish design review checklists and approval workflows
2 Detailed Engineering Oversight (EPC Stage)
- Review and comment on detailed engineering documents from:
- Electromechanical EPC contractor
- BOP Electrical contractor
- Review:
- Generator & excitation system integration
- GSU transformers
- GIS / AIS switchyard
- Bus ducts / Isolated Phase Bus
- Station power system (AC/DC)
- Earthing & lightning protection
- Protection & relaying schemes
- SCADA, SAS & communication interfaces
- Black start and islanding schemes
- Ensure proper interface management between CivilHydroElectricalControl systems
3 System Studies & Grid Integration
- Review and validate:
- Load flow studies
- Short circuit studies
- Transient stability studies
- Insulation coordination studies
- Harmonic studies
- Coordinate with CTU/STU for grid connectivity approvals
- Review switchyard layout optimization and transmission evacuation scheme
4. Design Optimization & Cost Reduction
Aligned with Avaada’s target of reducing PSP cost:
- Optimize transformer ratings and redundancy philosophy
- Evaluate GIS vs AIS techno-commercial tradeoffs
- Review redundancy levels (N-1 philosophy)
- Standardize specifications for future PSP portfolio
- Support value engineering initiatives
5.Technical Risk & Quality Assurance
- Identify design risks early (protection coordination, GSU failures, harmonic risks, resonance, etc.)
- Ensure reliability for 40+ year lifecycle
- Participate in FAT, SAT, and commissioning reviews
- Support root cause analysis during testing & initial operation
6.Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Civil & Hydro Design Teams
- Mechanical/EM team
- Project Management
- Contracts & Procurement
- O&M; team (future operability inputs)
- Mentor junior engineers and build Electrical Centre of Excellence within PSP vertical
Preferred candidate profile
Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
- M.Tech (Power Systems) preferred
Experience
- 20+ years in Power Sector
- Minimum 8–10 years in Hydro / Pumped Storage / Large Thermal (500 MW units)
- Experience from:
- Owner/Developer side
- Leading design consultant
- Major OEM / EPC organization
- Hands-on experience in:
- Generator & excitation systems
- Protection coordination
- 220/400 kV switchyard design
- Grid connectivity
