L2 Operations Engineer Database (DBA)
Support level: L2 Operations Domain: Database Administration
Scope: Oracle, SQL Server, and Cloud Databases – hosted on public cloud (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP acceptable), via IaaS or PaaS/managed services; Patching, Backup & Recovery, Capacity & Performance
Support the client's databases in the public cloud (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP also considered), whether self-managed on IaaS or running as managed/PaaS services, in a 24x7 operations environment. Resolve L2 incidents and escalate to L3 when needed.
Process
- End-to-end incident management, from L1/L1.5 escalation to closure, following documented runbooks and SOPs.
- Monitor database and infrastructure alerts; triage and respond per standard procedures.
- Participate in On-Call/shift rotation for 24x7 coverage.
- Keep the database inventory aligned with the CMDB.
- Build, install, and configure current database instances (EC2-hosted or PaaS) from service requests to client standards. Run QA checks and document exceptions for client review.
- Patch databases on the client's rollout schedule, including urgent patches for critical vulnerabilities. Carry out minor upgrades, migrations, and fix packs.
- Perform patching and dev/test clones for Oracle E-Business Suite, where applicable.
- Run backups and restores (point-in-time and object-level). Report and fix backup failures immediately; participate in periodic restore/DR testing.
- Tune databases, SQL, and schemas, including indexes. Troubleshoot job failures and space alerts.
- Support capacity planning; FinOps Efforts, provide monthly capacity and performance reports.
- Run proactive database health checks as part of routine operations.
- Provision and manage access as per standard guidelines,
and maintain audit/security logs, documenting exceptions as needed.
- Build scripts to automate routine database changes.
- Raise and implement changes through the client's change management process.
- Keep ServiceNow tickets current, with clear resolution and closure notes.
- Join RCA reviews; update SOPs and knowledge-base articles.
- Support migration of workloads into cloud-managed database services.
- Decommission databases per process.

- Oracle Database (EC2-hosted or RDS)
- Microsoft SQL Server (EC2-hosted or RDS)
- Oracle E-Business Suite (EC2)
- AWS managed database services (RDS/Aurora or equivalent) ; Azure or GCP managed database services also considered
- PostgreSQL, Amazon DocumentDB, OpenSearch (preferred)
- Databricks, BigQuery exposure (a plus)
- Backup and recovery tools (Quest LiteSpeed, RMAN, AWS Backups/Snapshots)
- Enterprise monitoring tools (DataDog)
- ServiceNow
Technologies
- Oracle and/or SQL Server administration (EC2 and/or PaaS)
- Cloud database operations (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP acceptable)

Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with recent experience operating cloud database infrastructure on IaaS and PaaS/managed services (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP also acceptable)
- Experience working in a 24x7 support environment
- Experience with ITSM tools and incident/problem/change processes
- Clear written and spoken English
Certifications
AWS foundational certification or equivalent (e.g., Cloud Practitioner) is a nice-to-have.
