Job Purpose
The Plant HR Manager is responsible for managing end-to-end HR operations at the manufacturing plant, ensuring statutory compliance, industrial relations stability, workforce productivity, and alignment with corporate HR policies. The role partners closely with plant leadership to support business continuity, cost efficiency, and a positive employee relations climate.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant HR Operations
- Manage end-to-end HR operations for plant employees (permanent, contract, and trainees).
- Implement HR policies, SOPs, and best practices aligned with corporate guidelines.
- Handle manpower planning, workforce deployment, and shift staffing requirements.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives at the plant level.
2. Industrial Relations & Employee Relations
- Maintain cordial industrial relations and ensure a harmonious work environment.
- Handle union interactions, negotiations, settlements, and grievance redressal.
- Lead disciplinary processes, domestic enquiries, and corrective actions as required.
- Proactively identify IR risks and develop mitigation strategies.
3. Statutory & Labor Law Compliance
- Ensure 100% compliance with labor laws including Factories Act, Industrial Disputes Act, CLRA, PF, ESI, Gratuity, Bonus, Standing Orders, and state-specific laws.
- Manage statutory inspections, audits, and liaison with government authorities.
- Oversee contractor compliance and audits for statutory adherence.
4. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Management
- Manage recruitment for plant roles including operators, technicians, executives, and contract labor.
- Coordinate onboarding, induction, and probation processes.
- Partner with operations to ensure optimal manpower cost and productivity.
5. Performance Management & Capability Building
- Implement performance management systems for plant employees.
- Identify training needs and coordinate technical, behavioral, and safety training programs.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives at the plant.
6. Payroll, Compensation & Benefits
- Oversee payroll inputs, attendance, overtime, incentives, and statutory deductions.
- Ensure timely processing of wages/salaries for permanent and contract employees.
- Support compensation benchmarking and wage revisions as applicable.
7. Health, Safety & Welfare
- Partner with EHS teams to promote a robust safety culture.
- Ensure statutory welfare measures such as canteen, transport, medical facilities, and restrooms.
- Support accident investigations and corrective actions from an HR perspective.
8. HR Reporting & MIS
- Prepare and present HR dashboards, attrition reports, compliance status, and manpower analytics.
- Maintain accurate employee records and documentation.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Indian labor laws and factory HR practices
- Proven experience in Industrial Relations and union handling
- Stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment
- Strong communication, conflict management, and decision-making skills
- Hands-on, plant-floor oriented approach
Educational Qualifications
- MBA / MSW / PGDM in Human Resources or Industrial Relations
- Certification in Labor Laws or IR (preferred)
Experience
- 8-15 years of progressive HR experience
- Minimum 5-7 years in a Plant HR role within FMCG / Manufacturing
- Prior experience handling unionized environments is highly desirable
