Job Description Purchase Executive / Purchase Engineer (Mechanical Consumables)

Job Purpose
To manage the procurement of mechanical spares, plant machinery, project equipment, engineering materials, MRO items, and consumables required for manufacturing operations and ongoing expansion projects. Ensure timely procurement while optimizing cost, quality, delivery, and compliance with company procurement policies.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Plant Procurement
- Procure mechanical spares, bearings, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, pipes, fittings, compressors, blowers, conveyors, and other plant equipment.
- Source fabrication materials, structural steel, hardware, fasteners, industrial tools, and maintenance items.
- Ensure timely availability of critical maintenance spares to avoid production downtime.
Project Procurement
- Handle procurement for current plant setup, expansion projects, and CAPEX requirements.
- Source process machinery, utility equipment, production lines, and project-related materials.
- Coordinate with Project, Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams for technical specifications and project timelines.
- Track project procurement schedules and ensure timely delivery to meet installation and commissioning milestones.
- Coordinate with vendors during installation, commissioning, inspections, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), where applicable.
Machinery Procurement
- Procure manufacturing machinery, utility equipment, and automation systems.
- Manage technical and commercial evaluations of machinery suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, warranty, AMC, installation, commissioning, and after-sales support.
- Coordinate import procurement, logistics, customs clearance, and documentation for overseas purchases when applicable.
Vendor Management
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and onboard new suppliers.
- Conduct vendor performance evaluations based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
- Maintain long-term supplier relationships and negotiate annual rate contracts.
Procurement Operations
- Float RFQs, obtain quotations, prepare comparative statements, negotiate commercial terms, and issue Purchase Orders.
- Ensure procurement complies with approved budgets and procurement policies.
- Monitor supplier commitments and expedite delayed deliveries.
Inventory & Cost Management
- Maintain optimum inventory levels for critical spares and consumables.
- Monitor reorder levels and avoid stock shortages.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate sourcing and value engineering.
Documentation & ERP
- Process procurement transactions in SAP/ERP.
- Maintain purchase records, vendor files, contracts, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate invoice verification and payment processing with Finance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Certification in Supply Chain or Procurement is an added advantage.
Experience
- 5–10 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing industry.
- Experience in mechanical procurement, plant machinery, project procurement, CAPEX purchasing, and MRO materials.
- Exposure to greenfield or brownfield manufacturing projects is preferred.
- Working knowledge of SAP/ERP systems.
Technical Skills
- Mechanical engineering drawings and specifications.
- Plant machinery and equipment procurement.
- CAPEX and project procurement.
- Vendor development and contract negotiation.
- Cost analysis and budgeting.
- SAP/ERP and Microsoft Excel.
- Import procurement and logistics (preferred).
