Role Overview

Responsible for L1 operations of backup and replication environments, ensuring data protection, backup reliability, and timely recovery. The role focuses on monitoring backup jobs, troubleshooting failures, and maintaining backup infrastructure across enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage and monitor backup operations using Commvault (mandatory) and NetBackup (optional)
- Configure and maintain backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies
- Perform daily monitoring of backup jobs and resolve failures within SLA timelines
- Support backup and restore operations across Windows and Linux/UNIX platforms
- Configure and manage client setups and backup agents
- Perform snapshot-based backups for physical and virtual environments
- Support Kubernetes backup operations and object storage integrations (S3-compatible)
- Conduct health checks and proactive monitoring of backup environments
- Apply patches and updates to backup systems ensuring compatibility
- Troubleshoot backup/restore issues and perform log analysis
- Maintain documentation, SOPs, and backup configurations
- Assist in disaster recovery (DR) testing and validation
- Coordinate with storage, network, and infrastructure teams for issue resolution
- Generate and share backup reports (daily/weekly) on performance and capacity
- Support 24x7 operations and on-call rotations

Qualifications

- BE / B.Tech / M.Tech / MSc / MCA or equivalent
- Certifications preferred:
- Commvault / Veritas NetBackup




- ITIL Foundation (preferred)

Experience & Skills

- 3+ years of experience as a Backup Administrator in enterprise environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Commvault (mandatory) and NetBackup (optional)

Technical Skills:

- Expertise in backup configuration, scheduling, and retention management
- Strong understanding of incremental, full, and synthetic backup strategies
- Experience with Linux/UNIX (RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows backup environments
- Knowledge of snapshot management, replication, and deduplication concepts
- Experience with Commvault Command Center and CommCell Console
- Familiarity with object storage (S3-compatible) and cloud backup integrations (AWS)
- Understanding of tape libraries and media management
- Experience in backup troubleshooting, log analysis, and RCA
- Familiarity with ITSM tools (ServiceNow or similar)
- Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell/Bash) for automation and monitoring

Preferred

- Experience in enterprise or data centre environments
- Exposure to disaster recovery and replication strategies
- Familiarity with remote monitoring and support tools
