K.J. Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre, a 550-bedded medical college and hospital in Sion, Mumbai, is hiring a Staff Nurse for its Thalassemia Unit.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide nursing care to thalassemia patients, including children, attending the unit
- Carry out pre-transfusion checks, vital monitoring and patient preparation
- Administer blood and blood component transfusions as per protocol under medical supervision
- Monitor patients during and after transfusion and identify and report any transfusion reactions promptly
- Maintain IV access and administer prescribed medications, including chelation therapy
- Coordinate with the Blood Centre for cross-matching, requisitions and timely availability of blood units
- Maintain patient transfusion records, Hb charts and unit registers
- Support patients and parents with counselling on transfusion schedules, chelation compliance and follow-up visits
- Coordinate appointments and follow-ups with treating consultants
- Follow infection control, biomedical waste and patient safety protocols
- Support NABH documentation and audit requirements of the department

Requirements
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing / P.B.B.Sc Nursing




- Valid registration with Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC)
- Prior hospital nursing experience required; experience in transfusion, paediatrics or haematology preferred
- Knowledge of blood transfusion protocols and management of transfusion reactions

- BLS certification preferred
- Patient and empathetic approach, as the role involves long-term paediatric patients
- Good communication and record-keeping skills
