The role
We are hiring one Sr. Jewellery Designer to own the drawing board for our bridal line. Someone whose hand sketches are explicit enough that a karigar can read intent straight off the page. This is the person whose pencil decides what the house makes next season.
Pushpam Jewels is a family run manufacturing house working in traditional Indian bridal jewellery: kundan, polki and jadau. We run our own floor, with setting, kundan metal, casting, wax, polishing and QC all in the building. A design goes from sketch into real karigari without leaving the premises, which means a drawing that is slightly off on weight, layout or stone size shows up as a problem on the bench within days. Good drawings save us money; vague ones cost us a sample.
This is a drawing role, not a CAD role. We are not hiring a CAD designer. We want hand sketching, rendering and detailing, concept to spec on paper. CAD execution is handled separately in house, and your sketches are the brief that feeds it. Portfolios that are mostly Matrix, Rhino or 3Design renders are not what we are looking for.
The position is full time, fully remote and meant to be long term. We have worked with designers outside the city before. We care about the clarity of what arrives and how reliably it arrives, not where you sit.
What you'll own
- Collection direction. Build each season's bridal story as one coherent set rather than a pile of one offs: necklaces, chokers, rani haars, kadas, tops, maang tikkas, mathapattis.
- Hand sketches and rendered drawings that are production ready: proportion, layout, front and side views, stone placement, cut and setting marked, size and approximate weight indicated.
- Spec handover. Write the drawing so the CAD team and the karigars both work from it without a second conversation: stone sizes, counts, meena placement, kundan vs. polki calls, hook and clasp details.
- Design to floor loop.
Review first samples against the drawing, mark corrections, and iterate until the piece reads the way the sketch did.
- Adaptations and reworks. Take an existing design and respin it for a different budget, weight, stone mix or client brief.
- The design library. Keep drawings, codes and references organised so past work is findable and reusable rather than redrawn.
What we're looking for
Required
- 8+ years designing bridal jewellery, with at least some of it in a manufacturing or karkhana setup rather than only retail or styling
- A portfolio of hand-drawn work: sketches, rendered illustrations, technical drawings. We will want to see the drawings, not only photographs of finished pieces
- Direct experience designing kundan, polki or jadau. You know how a kundan setting behaves, what polki shapes are actually available, and what meena does to a design
- Able to specify a piece: stone sizes and counts, layout, approximate metal weight, setting type, findings
- Has worked with karigars and can tell when a drawing is beautiful but unmakeable at the price
- Comfortable working remotely and self directed: you send work on agreed dates, in a readable format, without being chased
Preferred
- Experience designing to a target weight or cost band, not only to an idea
- Exposure to export or NRI bridal buyers and how their taste differs from the domestic market
How we'll hire
1 Portfolio review. Send hand drawn work; we shortlist on the drawings alone.
2 Paid sketch test. One real brief from our line, a few drawings. This is how we assess the role, so we pay for it.
3 Call with the founders. The test, how you work, timelines and terms.
