Job Title (Role): Senior Embedded Software Engineer - Automotive ECUs Required Total Experience: 6 - 10 years of hands-on automotive embedded software development, with at least 4 years on production ECUs released to an OEM (SOP experience mandatory).
Purpose of the role The Embedded SW engineer will design, implement, integrate and release production-grade embedded software for automotive powertrain ECUs (motor controller, VCU/HCU, BMS, on-board charger, etc.) so that vehicle-level functions are delivered first-time-right and on time in compliance with ISO 26262, MISRA C and Automotive SPICE. The role owns the software layers from MCAL and BSW to ASW, Diagnostics and Bootloader.
The role is accountable for the software quality and issues closure of the ECUs assigned, working closely with the component owners. Role Description List down 10 (max) discrete jobs in order of priority:
- Accountability: ECU Application Software Design and Implementation
- Derive software requirements from system and functional requirements. Produce software architecture and detailed design (components, interfaces, tasks, timing) for the assigned ECU.
- Implement application and driver software in Embedded C for automotive microcontrollers within defined memory, runtime and latency budgets.
- Integrate code (and clean it) from MATLAB Simulink / TargetLink / Embedded Coder models with the software baseline.
- Perform design and code reviews and maintain bidirectional traceability from requirement to code to test case
- Accountability: ECU Basic Software and MCAL Integration
- Configure and integrate AUTOSAR Classic BSW stacks, MCAL drivers and the RTE using for the target MCU family.
- Bring up recent hardware (clock, memory, watchdog, ADC, PWM, timers, SPI/I2C, NVM, OS configuration, etc.).
- Resolve HW/SW integration issues with the embedded team and component owner.
- Own the OS task and scheduler design (task partitioning, priorities, runnable mapping) and verify CPU load and timing margins.
- Accountability: Diagnostics, Communication Stack and Bootloader |
- Develop and maintain the communication stack, network management and signal database integration.
- Develop and maintain UDS diagnostics: DTC handling, service routines, freeze frames, security access and the diagnostic database (ODX/CDD).
- Develop and maintain the bootloader and reprogramming sequence including secure flashing,
key handling and end-of-line / after-sales flashing use cases.
- Support XCP based measurement and calibration and the release of calibration data to the calibration team.
- Accountability: Software Quality, Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Compliance
- Implement software safety requirements and safety mechanisms up to the assigned ASIL.
- Ensure MISRA C compliance, run static analysis and drive deviation justification and closure.
- Deliver ASPICE-compliant work products and support internal and third party assessments.
- Apply cybersecurity requirements: secure boot, secure diagnostic access, key and certificate handling.
- Accountability: Software Integration, Test and Debugging
- Plan and execute unit, integration and software qualification testing and achieve the agreed coverage targets.
- Commission and use SIL and automation benches for regression testing of each software release.
- Support vehicle testing, fault reproduction and root-cause analysis with the component owner, powertrain and system integration teams.
- Accountability: Configuration Management, Documentation and Cross-functional Support
- Maintain software configuration and change management, including branching, build automation and release baselines.
- Prepare and maintain software release notes, integration reports, open-point lists and problem reports in the tracking system.
- Support software reviews, technical clarifications and joint debugging sessions with other stakeholders.
- Contribute to reuse, coding guidelines, tool evaluation and competence building within the embedded team.
