Job Profile: Planning Engineer Transmission Line and Substation Projects (PMC Role)
Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Civil / Electrical Engineering; certification or advanced training in Primavera P6 / MS Project preferred.
Experience: 812 years of planning, scheduling, and project-controls experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and substation projects.
Role Purpose The Planning Engineer will represent the Project Management Consultant in establishing, reviewing, and monitoring integrated schedules for 400 kV and above transmission line and substation packages. The role focuses on baseline validation, progress measurement, critical-path analysis, interface coordination, forecasting, delay identification, recovery planning, and timely management reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as PMC planning representative for transmission line and substation packages.
- Review contractor WBS, baseline schedules, activity logic, durations, calendars, constraints, milestones, and resource loading.
- Develop and maintain integrated schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, energisation, and handover.
- Establish progress-measurement methods aligned with BOQ, schedule of values, contractual milestones, and verified site quantities.
- Prepare and review daily, weekly, monthly, two-week, and three-month look-ahead schedules, S-curves, resource histograms, and milestone trackers.
- Verify reported physical progress with site records and engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
- Monitor critical and near-critical paths, identify slippages and constraints, and recommend corrective, recovery, or acceleration measures.
- Track drawing approvals, long-lead materials, manufacturing, dispatch, site receipt, work-front readiness, and package interfaces.
- Support review of extension-of-time and delay claims through event chronology, contemporaneous records, and schedule-impact analysis.
- Prepare dashboards, MIS, schedule narratives, risk registers, forecasts, and management-review presentations.
Required Experience and Exposure
- Hands-on planning experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and AIS/GIS substation projects, preferably in PMC, client-side, EPC, or owners engineer roles.
- Solid working knowledge of Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel, schedule baselining, CPM, resource planning, and progress reporting.
- Understanding of transmission-line construction sequences and substation civil, structural, electrical, testing, and commissioning interfaces.
- Exposure to delay analysis, recovery schedules, risk tracking, procurement monitoring, and invoice milestone verification.
Competencies : Candidates should have experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and AIS/GIS substation projects, with strong expertise in project planning, scheduling, project controls, baseline schedule review, progress monitoring, critical path analysis, delay analysis, recovery planning, and MIS reporting. Preference will be given to candidates with PMC/Owners Engineer/client-side experience, proficiency in Primavera P6/MS Project, and proven skills in forecasting, risk tracking, interface coordination, procurement monitoring, and stakeholder reporting.
Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should have 812 years of proven planning and project-controls experience in high-voltage transmission line and substation projects. The candidate should independently evaluate contractor schedules, reconcile reported progress, identify emerging delays, coordinate package interfaces, and provide reliable forecasts and actionable reports to the client and project leadership.
