About the Role
Our client is looking for an I&C; Engineering Lead to head the Instrumentation and Controls discipline within their centralized engineering services team, supporting operations and maintenance for upstream and downstream manufacturing facilities globally. You will lead a team of I&C; engineers, act as the discipline's technical authority, and make sure all design and engineering complies with relevant codes, standards and Company Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of I&C; engineers, including guidance on standards, datasheets, design calculations, requisitions, technical bid evaluations and technical queries
- Plan and allocate discipline resources, and own the quality and timely delivery of all I&C; deliverables
- Act as the technical authority for I&C;, giving final review and sign-off on discipline work
- Interface with other discipline leads, operations teams, EPC Contractors and vendors
- Lead the development and maintenance of Global Procedures, Software and Standards for I&C;
Engineering and Projects
- Direct I&C; design and engineering with EPC Contractors, and review and approve their work for compliance with project specifications, codes and industry best practice
- Lead I&C; participation in HAZOP, SIL and Classification Studies, and drive HAZOP action close-out
- Attend and oversee I&C; equipment FATs
- Oversee review and development of I&C; documentation, including P&IDs;, cause and effect diagrams,
logic and architecture diagrams and control narratives
- Lead I&C; support for construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and turnarounds (shutdowns)
- Own Management of Change (MoC) for I&C; scope
Reliability and Operations Support
- Lead troubleshooting and reliability improvement of instrumentation systems to keep facilities safe, available and reliable while optimizing cost
- Set direction for instrument surveillance programs and analysis of maintenance data (failure rates, availability and reliability, bad actors, failure modes, cost effectiveness)
- Use risk-based work selection to prioritize maintenance and improvement items for annual and periodic plans
- Define maintenance strategies for instrumentation and control systems based on SIL assessment, industry standards, regulations and manufacturer recommendations, and lead Functional Safety assessments
- Own lifecycle management for control systems, SIS and PLCs: inventory, obsolescence, spares, upgrades, ESD testing and online/offline test planning
- Make sure control systems meet cybersecurity requirements as per industry standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Instrumentation and Controls,
Electrical or Electronics) from a recognized university
- 10+ years of I&C; engineering experience in Oil and Gas, Refining or Petrochemical projects or operations, including time leading a team or discipline (needs verification with client)
- Strong hands-on experience in selection, sizing and application of pressure, temperature, flow and level instruments, control valves and shutdown valves
- Experience specifying, configuring and programming Safety Instrumented Systems
- Working knowledge of industry standards, country-specific regulations and local codes
- Sound understanding of Functional Safety and control system Cybersecurity in the process industry
- Valid work permit for India
Preferred
- Experience with complex systems such as machinery controls, vibration monitoring, custody transfer metering, fired heater burner management and tank gauging
- Understanding of sparing, redundancy, reliability, availability, maintainability and maintenance cost
- Data analysis using tools such as SAP, Analytics for Excel and Tableau
- Certification in Functional Safety and/or Cybersecurity from a recognized institution
