Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Factory Medical Officer (FMO) / AFIH Doctor to oversee our on-site Occupational Health Centre (OHC). The incumbent will lead clinical operations, ensure strict compliance with statutory occupational health regulations under the Factories Act and State Factory Rules, and champion workplace ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and emergency medical readiness across the manufacturing site.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & OHC Operations
- Direct daily OHC operations, managing Outpatient Department (OPD) clinical consultations, triage, dispensing, and standard patient care for all plant personnel and contractor workforce.
- Maintain comprehensive digital and physical medical records while preserving strict medical confidentiality.
- Supervise paramedical staff, nursing personnel, and on-site ambulance services to ensure 24/7 emergency response capability.
- Monitor stock levels of essential emergency drugs, antidotes, consumables, and biomedical equipment, verifying routine calibration and readiness.
Statutory Compliance & Medical Surveillance
- Schedule and conduct statutory health examinationsincluding pre-employment, periodical, and annual medical check-upsin strict alignment with the Factories Act and State Factory Rules.
- Carry out hazard-specific medical evaluations (audiometry, spirometry/PFT, vision screening, heavy metal toxicity screenings) based on specific plant exposure profiles.
- Maintain statutory registers (such as Form 7 / Form 32 or applicable State Factory Rules registers) and prepare documentation for Factory Inspectorate, Chief Medical Officer, and certifying surgeon audits.
Emergency Care & Trauma Management
- Act as the lead medical responder for workplace injuries, severe trauma stabilization, chemical exposures, burns, and industrial intoxications.
- Coordinate rapid medical evacuations, tie-ups with tertiary multi-specialty referral hospitals, and disaster management drills.
- Conduct regular BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS, and industrial first-aid training for site emergency response teams (ERT) and plant employees.
Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene
- Partner with the EHS team on shop-floor walkthroughs, ergonomic assessments, and workplace safety audits to identify physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Participate in root-cause analyses (RCA) for occupational injuries, illnesses, and near-miss incidents to propose corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Design and execute health and wellness campaigns focused on lifestyle diseases, occupational stress, heat stress prevention, and workplace ergonomics.
Required Qualifications & Experience Basic Medical Degree - MBBS from an NMC-recognized institution
Specialization / Certification
Preferred AFIH (Associate Fellowship in Industrial Health)
or
Equivalent DIH recognized by DGFASLI or
MBBS
Licensing
Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or relevant State Medical Council
Experience
25 years of hands-on clinical and occupational health experience in a manufacturing plant, heavy engineering unit, chemical plant, or industrial facility
Certifications (Preferred)
Active certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) / ACLS / ATLS

- Emergency Response: Robust hands-on competence in trauma care, wound suturing, burn stabilization, and airway management.
- Regulatory Acumen: Thorough familiarity with the Factories Act, state-specific occupational health guidelines, and hazardous process protocols.
- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with shop-floor workers, leadership, and external statutory authorities.
