1.0 JOB ROLE

Design, review, test and commission electrical control panels, marshalling boxes and transformer auxiliary systems according to approved drawings, specifications, customer requirements and applicable standards.

The Electrical

Engineer is responsible for correct electrical design, component selection, wiring accuracy, functional performance, troubleshooting and technical documentation. The role applies to electrical engineering work for PSSPL control panels, transformer auxiliary systems and other assigned products.

2.0 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1 Review the latest approved customer specifications, drawings, scope of supply, technical requirements and applicable standards before starting work.

2.2 Prepare and review single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, terminal connection diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and Bills of Materials.

2.3 Select and size electrical components, cables and protection devices based on load, voltage, fault level and application requirements. Prepare or verify load, cable-sizing, protection, control-supply and panel heat-loss calculations as applicable.

2.4 Design and verify transformer cooling, OLTC control, OTI/WTI monitoring, alarm, annunciation, trip, interlock, heating, lighting and local or remote-control circuits. Ensure proper protection, isolation, earthing, fail-safe operation and prevention of unintended energization.

2.5 Supervise and participate in panel wiring. Verify cable routing, wire size and colour, ferruling, crimping, termination, polarity, terminal tightness, component ratings, segregation and earthing against approved drawings.

2.6 Perform or witness applicable continuity, insulation-resistance, high-voltage, functional, alarm, trip, interlock, motor-control and simulated-condition tests using approved and calibrated instruments. High-voltage testing shall be performed only by trained and authorized persons after confirming the required safety controls.

2.7 Support customer inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests, site testing, commissioning and troubleshooting when assigned and authorized. Record, track and close inspection or site observations with supporting evidence and required approval.

2.8 Document electrical faults, failures, and nonconformances before repair. Perform or suggest root-cause analysis and corrective actions, obtaining approval prior to substituting components or deviating from specs.

2.9 Use and maintain the latest approved drawings, BOMs, specifications and revisions. Submit documents for internal or customer approval when assigned, record comments, obtain approval before making changes and update as-built drawings after completion. Maintain calculations, test reports, inspection records, manuals and commissioning documents with proper traceability.

2.10 Plan and complete assigned engineering work using available information, approved resources and technical knowledge. Coordinate with concerned departments and promptly report delays, shortages or technical problems, including the checks and actions already completed.

2.11 Guide and verify the work of assigned wiremen, technicians or trainees when given supervisory responsibility, ensuring that they work within their training, demonstrated competence and authorization.

2.12 Maintain the cleanliness and proper arrangement of the workstation, computer, tools, instruments and equipment, and return issued items to their designated locations.

3.0 AUTHORITY

3.1 Stop or hold electrical work, testing, energization or a product when an unsafe condition, incorrect wiring, nonconforming component, unclear requirement or unapproved change is identified.

3.2 Select components and recommend circuit, calculation or drawing corrections within approved specifications, design rules and demonstrated competence.

3.3 Request correction, rework, component replacement or additional testing when electrical, functional, workmanship or safety requirements are not met.

3.4 No authority to approve component substitutions, technical deviations,

concessions or customer-requirement changes, bypass safety controls or release a nonconforming product without the required approval.

3.5 The Electrical Engineer may verify electrical designs, calculations and technical corrections within assigned authority. Final independent inspection and product release shall remain with Quality or another authorized person.

4.0 SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

4.1 Electrical control-panel design and interpretation of technical drawings.

4.2 Load calculation, component selection, cable sizing and protection coordination.

4.3 Relay and contactor logic, interlocking, motor control and transformer auxiliary circuits.

4.4 Panel wiring, earthing, signal wiring and workmanship verification.

4.5 Electrical testing, commissioning, fault-finding and root-cause analysis.

4.6 Knowledge of AC and DC auxiliary supplies, RTDs, 4–20 mA signals, dry contacts, shielding and electrical-noise control.

4.7 AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent drafting software and MS Office.

4.8 Preparation and control of technical drawings, calculations, reports and records.

4.9 Knowledge of applicable electrical-safety, IS/IEC and ISO 9001 requirements.

4.10 Planning, coordination, communication, supervision and timely reporting.

5.0 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

5.1 B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

5.2 Two to six years of relevant experience in electrical control panels, transformer auxiliary panels, marshalling boxes, substation equipment or similar industrial electrical systems is preferred.

5.3 Candidates with less experience may be considered for a suitable grade based on demonstrated practical competence in electrical drawings, panel wiring, testing and troubleshooting.

5.4 Experience in Factory Acceptance Tests, site commissioning and customer inspections will be an advantage.

5.5 Required induction, safety training and competency assessment shall be completed before independently carrying out electrical design, testing, energization or commissioning activities.
