– DUTY MEDICAL OFFICER (DUTY DOCTOR)
Department: Medical Services / Operations
Designation: Duty Medical Officer (DMO)
Reports To: Medical Director / RMO In-charge / Hospital Management
Location: Angel Care Women & Children’s Hospital
Job Summary The Duty Medical Officer is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical care to patients, attending emergencies, coordinating with consultants and nursing staff, and ensuring smooth clinical operations during the assigned duty shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care
- Attend to patients presenting to the hospital, including emergency and walk-in cases.
- Conduct initial patient assessment and document clinical findings.
- Monitor admitted patients and identify any deterioration in their condition.
- Provide appropriate initial treatment within the scope of practice.
- Ensure timely escalation of critical cases to the concerned consultant.
- Emergency Management
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate emergency management.
- Assist in resuscitation and stabilization of patients when required.
- Coordinate with consultants and emergency teams for further management.
- Ensure proper documentation of emergency cases and interventions.
- Inpatient Responsibilities
- Conduct regular rounds of assigned patients during the duty shift.
- Review vital signs, investigation reports, medications, and clinical progress.
- Follow up on pending investigations and treatment plans.
- Communicate significant changes in patient condition to the concerned consultant.
- Coordination with Consultants
- Inform the concerned consultant regarding new admissions, emergencies, critical cases,
and significant changes in patient condition.
- Implement consultant instructions accurately and promptly.
- Coordinate with on-call consultants whenever required.
- Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Complete admission notes, progress notes, treatment orders, discharge summaries, referral notes, and other required clinical documentation.
- Ensure proper handover to the incoming Duty Doctor.
- Patient Admission & Discharge
- Assist with the admission process and initial assessment of patients.
- Review patients before discharge as per hospital protocol.
- Ensure discharge instructions and prescriptions are completed appropriately.
- Coordinate with nursing and billing teams for smooth discharge.
- Handover & Shift Management
- Provide a detailed handover of all important cases, pending investigations, planned admissions, and critical patients to the next Duty Doctor.
- Maintain the duty/handover book properly.
- Ensure continuity of patient care during shift changes.
- Hospital Coordination
- Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, reception, and other departments for patient care.
- Support smooth functioning of the hospital during the assigned shift.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols,
infection-control practices, and safety procedures.
- Quality & Compliance
- Maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Follow NABH and hospital clinical protocols applicable to the role.
- Participate in clinical meetings, training programmes, audits, and quality-improvement activities when required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid registration with the State Medical Council / National Medical Commission, as applicable.
- Internship completion certificate.
- Additional qualifications or experience in Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, or related areas will be an advantage.
Experience
- Freshers may be considered based on hospital requirements.
- Prior experience as a Duty Medical Officer/RMO in a hospital setting is preferred.

Working Conditions
- Rotational duty shifts, including day and night shifts.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
