Core Member (Volunteer)
Position Track: Volunteer Leadership Track
1. About the Role
Core Members serve as the backbone of the Institute’s volunteer leadership and contribute to the advancement of ANIG’s research, policy, outreach, programme, and organisational initiatives.
The role is intended for individuals who wish to contribute meaningfully to public policy and governance while participating in the institution-building phase of the Artha-Niti Institute for Governance. Core Members are expected to work collaboratively, uphold professional standards, and contribute consistently to the Institute’s mission of research, policy, and public interest.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Research & Policy Work
- Contribute to policy briefs, research papers, governance analyses, and related institutional publications.
- Assist with literature reviews, secondary-data collection, evidence gathering, and research documentation.
- Participate in internal review, discussion, and feedback sessions relating to ongoing research projects.
B. Programme & Event Management
- Assist in planning and executing seminars, workshops, panel discussions, conferences, and other institutional programmes.
- Coordinate, where required, with speakers, partner organisations, universities, and other institutions.
- Support programme logistics, coordination, communication, and event execution.
C. Outreach & Communications
- Draft and support content for newsletters, social media platforms, website communications, and institutional outreach.
- Represent ANIG, as authorised, at external forums, campus events, partner meetings, and other relevant engagements.
- Support membership outreach, stakeholder engagement, and institutional networking activities.
D. Organisational Building
- Mentor and support incoming volunteers and interns.
- Participate in working groups, committees, and other internal institutional mechanisms.
- Assist the leadership in strategic planning, institutional development, documentation, and reporting.

Administrative & Institutional Support
- Maintain relevant institutional documentation, records, minutes, and project-related materials.
- Provide support for fundraising, partnership, grant, CSR, and institutional proposals where required.
3. Role Expectations The Core Member is expected to:
- Maintain a minimum weekly commitment of approximately 4–6 hours, subject to programme and project requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly Core Team meetings.
- Demonstrate qualified conduct, reliability, collaboration, and accountability in assigned responsibilities.
- Work in alignment with ANIG’s institutional values of nonpartisanship, intellectual and research rigor, and public interest.
4. Compensation & Founding-Team Status
- Volunteer Position During the Founding Phase
- ANIG is currently in its founding, pre-funding phase, and its entire Core Team, including the Founder and Managing Trustee, is presently operating on a voluntary basis while the Institute’s institutional funding architecture—including Government, CSR, foundation, grant, and other legitimate funding channels—is being secured.
- Please note clearly: this is, at present, a volunteer-based position without monetary compensation. The position does not presently carry a salary, stipend, honorarium, or other monetary remuneration.
- However, it is ANIG’s stated institutional commitment that, as the Institute secures sustainable institutional funding, all founding and Core Team members shall be considered for transition to salaried and appropriately compensated roles, in accordance with the ANIG HR Framework and Service Rules,
and subject to the Institute’s organisational requirements and applicable approvals.
- Recognition as Founding Core Team
- Individuals joining ANIG during this founding phase shall have their association formally recognised as part of the Institute’s Founding Core Team.
- This founding association shall constitute part of the individual’s institutional record with ANIG and shall be carried forward in relevant future institutional records, profiles, communications, and recognition materials, subject to the Institute’s applicable policies and records.
5. Growth & Leadership Opportunities
Core Members may have opportunities to progressively assume greater responsibilities based on their contribution, engagement, capability, and institutional requirements.
Potential pathways include
- Specialisation within institutional verticals such as Research, Communications, Partnerships, or Programmes.
- Progression into leadership responsibilities, including roles such as Vertical Head or participation in the Executive Committee.
- Eligibility for a Certificate of Association and, where appropriate, Recommendation Letters based on the nature and duration of contribution.
6. Nature of Association The Core Member position is an institutional volunteer leadership role and does not presently constitute salaried employment.
All Core Members are expected to undertake their responsibilities in accordance with ANIG’s institutional policies, procedures, code of conduct, HR Framework, Service Rules, and directions issued by the competent institutional authorities.
This position is intended to provide meaningful participation in institution-building, research, governance, policy, public engagement, and organisational development during ANIG’s founding phase.
