Position SummaryThe Consultant / Interventional Cardiologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical and interventional cardiac care across outpatient, inpatient, intensive cardiac care (ICCU), and catheterization laboratory settings. In an institutional or teaching hospital workplace, the role also encompasses clinical teaching for postgraduate/undergraduate medical trainees, clinical research, and adherence to National Medical Commission (NMC) operational standards.

Key Responsibilities1. Invasive &

- Interventional Cardiology

- Perform diagnostic coronary angiographies (via radial and femoral approaches).
- Execute elective and primary percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI / angioplasty, stenting, thrombus aspiration).
- Perform and interpret temporary and permanent pacemaker implantations (single-chamber, dual-chamber), AICD, and CRT device placements.
- Conduct structural heart interventions and peripheral interventions according to institutional capability.
- Manage acute catheterization lab emergencies, post-procedure hemodynamics, and access-site complications.

2. Non-Invasive Diagnostics & • Clinical Management
- Conduct daily Outpatient Department (OPD) clinics for ischemic heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular conditions.
- Oversee and report 2D/3D Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE), Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Stress Echocardiography, and Dobutamine Stress Echo.
- Supervise and interpret Treadmill Tests (TMT), Holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and cardiac CT/MRI reports.
- Provide 24/7 on-call emergency coverage for acute coronary syndromes (STEMI/NSTEMI), cardiogenic shock, and life-threatening arrhythmias.

3. Inpatient & • Critical Care (ICCU)
- Supervise the Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU)



and high-dependency cardiac beds.
- Manage advanced hemodynamics, mechanical circulatory support (e.g., IABP), inotropic titration, and ventilator weaning in cardiac patients.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary management with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Nephrology, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine.

4. Academic & • Administrative Duties (For Medical College Settings)
- Conduct clinical bedside teaching, seminars, journal clubs, and case presentations for MBBS students, MD (General Medicine) residents, and nursing staff.
- Participate in departmental research, clinical trials, audits, and medical publications.
- Ensure documentation aligns with hospital quality accreditations (NABH) and regulatory standards mandated by the NMC.

Minimum Qualifications & • Experience
- Primary Education: MBBS from an NMC-recognized institution.
- Broad Specialty: MD / DNB in General Medicine or Pediatrics.
- Super Specialty: DM / DrNB in Cardiology from an NMC-recognized institution/university.
- Licensing: Valid, active permanent registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or relevant State Medical Council.
- Experience:
- Fresh DM graduates: Eligible for Senior Resident / Assistant Professor / Junior Consultant tracks.
- 2+ years post-DM: Eligible for Consultant / Interventional Specialist tracks with independent Cath Lab volume.

Key Competencies & • Technical Skills
- Proven competence in transradial coronary interventions and emergency primary PCI.
- Proficiency in advanced hemodynamic monitoring, emergency pericardiocentesis, and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) insertion.
- Strong diagnostic acumen in adult congenital, structural, and heart failure management.
- Excellent communication and counseling skills for high-stress patient/family discussions.
