Studio Kosm is a comic studio creating worlds to wander, characters to follow, and stories to get lost in. We’re building original webcomics in the fantasy genre, with a focus on immersive worlds, strong characters, and visual storytelling that makes you want to keep reading.

We’re looking for a Comic Writer to work directly with our founder, creative director, and artists to develop stories from the ground up.

Part-time. Fully remote. Approximately 20–30 hours a week. Flexible working hours.

✍️ THE ROLE

You’ll take a story from its initial concept through to production-ready comic scripts.

Your work will include

- Developing storylines, characters, conflicts, and worlds
- Mapping the story end-to-end, structuring stories into arcs and key beats
- Working in batches of episodes to develop and script upcoming chapters
- Writing scripts panel-by-panel, with dialogue and visual direction for the artist
- Maintaining continuity across characters, plotlines, worldbuilding, and episodes
- Working closely with the founder/creative director to develop and refine the story

? KEY REQUIREMENTS
- To be a reader of vertical-scroll webcomics is a non-negotiable requirement. You need to understand the format as a reader and be able to write for it as a visual medium, particularly its pacing, panel progression, reveals, hooks, and episode openings and endings.

?️ WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Excellent written communication and dialogue
- Solid understanding of story structure, character development, and worldbuilding
- A strong understanding of the fantasy genre and what makes fantasy worlds, characters, and conflicts work
- The ability to create emotional depth and write characters that feel compelling and layered
- Strong sense of narrative timing - knowing when to let a moment breathe, when to cut, and when to land a joke, reveal, or emotional beat

- Highly organised and structured approach to writing
- Strong time management and ability to work with clear deadlines
- Ability to develop a story systematically from a broad outline into individual episodes - by systematic, we mean systematic. We use Excel more than we use Docs
- Strong creative vision and the ability to contribute your own ideas while taking creative direction

Experience writing for comics, manga, webcomics, graphic novels, or screen is a plus. ? HOW TO APPLY

Email the following to [email protected] with the subject line Writer - [Your Name]. Once emailed, complete the LinkedIn application.

- Your resume
- A short note (150 words or fewer) about a vertical-scroll webcomic you believe people should read. [Tell us what makes the story good - we’re interested in your understanding of storytelling, not just whether you liked it].
- A 500–800-word writing sample based on the following prompt: A shopkeeper has one rule: never sell anything to someone who knows your real name. [Write an opening scene. The less conventional the opening, the better. We want to see whether you can hook an audience without relying on familiar setups, create intrigue quickly, and make someone want to immediately read what comes next.]
- Relevant writing samples are welcome (but not required), but only send work related to the fantasy genre or comics, manga, graphic novels, and other forms of sequential storytelling. [Please do not send unpublished creative work or original story ideas that you intend to develop yourself. We want to protect your creative IP, and Studio Kosm cannot take responsibility for ideas shared with us outside of the application exercise.]
